For this Field report, I visited a wooded area that is near the beach in Chesapeake Beach. From a quick glance, I saw a combination of mature trees and young trees. Since I can see that the trees lost their leaves during the Fall, I will state that they are deciduous trees. They shed their leaves through the process of abscission. For the mature tree in this picture I observed that the trunk is darker than the younger trees in the background and about 15 to 20 feet tall if not higher. Walking through the fallen leaves you can hear branches and twigs break and when I touched the soil it did not feel totally dry since it rained the day before.…
Red Maples are a deciduous tree found in a diverse range of different habitats and conditions. They have a great ability to adapt to different types of soils, levels of moisture and altitudes. This is why Red Maples are found all over Eastern North America and are the most abundant and widespread deciduous tree in New England.…

Would the average person know that a honey bees' wings stroke 11,400 times per minute, making a distinctive buzzing noise (Delaplane). There are many things that people don’t know about bees. Most people are perfectly fine never encountering a bee or knowing anything about them. A human’s first reaction to a bee is that the bee is there to harm them by stinging them. Most people that have experienced an encounter with a bee, wasp or hornet would say it wasn’t a positive encounter. Most people probably swing, swat and try to hit the insect away.…
