The problem does not lie on material bases but on themselves. They feel that their efforts or their sacrifices toward the society will never be enough as someone will always give more. They think by giving contributions to the society is the only way for them to be respected. Thus, people will always need them and look up to them. It is also stated that the feeling of being worthless and isolating themselves from other as if they do not matter, if continues will not only harm their emotions it will also harm their life. It is very important because when we feel desired we will have reasons to live. It sounds dramatic but it is the harsh reality of today. In our society nowadays to be able to fit in and to be accepted is the central ideas of being normal. To be left out by the society and shun down by people and friends will hurt ourselves more than we think it will. That is why depression that comes from the feeling of being alone among adult especially young adults has shown significant increases in the past decades. This then will ultimately lead to suicide. From the article by The New Yorker titled “Suicide, a Crime of Loneliness” stated that “Every forty seconds, someone commits suicide. In the United States, it is the tenth most common cause of death in people over ten years of age, far more common than death by homicide or aneurysm or AIDS”. One major example is the death of beloved actor and comedian, Robin Williams who was known for his role as “Genie” in the Disney’s animated movie “Aladdin”. For someone that showed eccentric and hilarious performances, one will not believe that he was suffering from depression. There are still no clear causes as to why he was willing to commit suicide but we cannot deny that feeling unneeded is among the cause. This demonstrates that none of us is immune.
