In Behind the Beautiful Forevers, Poverty influences Asha to become immoral and corrupt, allowing her to pursue the over city. Asha lives in Annawadi, a Mumbai slum on the border of Mumbai’s great airport. Annawadi is a rural and impoverished slum, surrounded by the nuances of the rich in the nearby airport. In the slum, opportunity is short and people go days without the proper nutrition and essentials needed in order to live a healthy lifestyle. India is home to the largest population of poor residents and Annawadi is an illustration of this poverty.     The city of Mumbai has seen much growth in the past years. A string of elegant hotels have been set up for travelers and high-class business men. An ever growing, top of the line airport has been built for those coming in and out of the country. From the outside, Mumbai seems to have taken a liking to being internationally integrated with the rest of world, otherwise known as globalization.
