In Mumbai, India there lies an undercity, recognized as, Annawadi. In this village like undercity you will discover that poverty, death, and constant hope are a daily event. The poverty is shared by most to all of the citizens. Many deaths caused by terrible living conditions, starvation or illness. Many suffer in Annawadi from lack of money, and some from losing loved ones, one thing many of the citizen’s lack little of is hope. The citizens are constantly hoping for better whether for their children’s safety and future, or even for their homes, that have a chance of being torn down by the airport authority. In the slums of Annawadi a majority of individuals hope for some of the same things. One being that their children’s future and safety, many hope their children have something more than they could give them, for them to have an education, a spouse that will be worthy, a family full of joy, all the simple things any parents would ask for. Another hope these people have is that their homes will not be demolished by the airport authority. Others just hope they will eventually make enough to escape and find refuge in a city where they can support their family better than they ever could in their current home. Although many know their hopes may not completely possible, they are still optimistic enough to hope. The undercity of Annawadi is a place with poverty and plenty if deaths, but is also a place with hope. The poverty the city suffers is like no other, it is something that would make one loose hope but with the people who were born into this poverty and know nothing more, it is something used as motivation to do and be better. The people see loved ones die on a daily, many that had so much more they could do with their life, many young lives, as well as, many unfinished stories.
