even get them fired from the job if it really was a problem. But when it comes to changing their ethics, I don’t think there is anything I could say to change their views. I would try to reason with them, that their sentence is enough punishment for the inmates and that is the system we live by; but I don’t think it would be enough to change their views.
I would take this opportunity in front of congress to express my deep concerns for repeat offenders, and why it is so common for a one time felon to become a repeat offender. We have to change our ways of punishing the accused from simply taking their freedom away, pulling them away from society, and not showing them how they can do better. We see this all the time with drug addicts who commit crimes. We catch them in the act, throw them in jail for some time, and then release them back into society only for them to get thrown back in jail because of their addiction. If we instead show these poor souls what they are doing wrong, why they are doing wrong, and how they can do better, while also providing treatment for them we would see the amount of people that go back to jail a second or third time drop astronomically.
