Being A Dermatologist Essay
As a premed student, one of my main personal goals will be to find out if my personal traits and behaviors will be compatible for my future career. The career I want to pursue in the medical field is dermatology. The study of skin. In order to be a dermatologist, you have to be confident, empathetic, humane, personal, forthright, respectful, and thourough. It is important to present yourself in a standard that people are looking for in a professional way. People want their doctors who can empathize and understand their needs not only as a patient but as a regular human being too. Confidence is another very important trait to have also. For the reason being, if the doctor is not confident in his or her diagnosis then why should we be confident. Being humane can affect on how doctors react on people. For example, if a doctor is rude or uninterested it makes us feel like we are not as important as we should be to them. Where as if the doctor approaches the patient in a kind and compassionate sense, the patient will most likely be willing to open up more and give more information to the doctor. Which will make the diagnosis easier to identify. When explaining a diagnosis to a patient a doctor needs to know how to apply their knowledge and relate to the patients who are most likely to not understand the medical terminology for diseases and treatments. …show more content…
