Having a great pitcher is one of the biggest assets to have on a softball team. Although many believe that the ability to pitch is unchallenging, it takes a tremendous amount of hard work. The best way to become a great pitcher includes having consistency and accuracy, having good placement in the strike zone, having precise mechanics, and having a various amount of pitches.
Having the consistency and accuracy is the first step to being a good pitcher. These two skills are the most important skills to acquire during pitching. One must be able to throw consistent strikes for long periods of time, otherwise no plays or outs will be made during the game. For example, if the pitcher does not place the ball in the strike zone on a consistent basis, then the batters will all be put on base and the game will be prolonged. If she does have the consistency and accuracy, then she will be successful in her pitching. This completes the first step.
