Jennifer, Being a Registered Nurse (RN) as well, I agree with you on the importance of emotional intelligence (EI). Patients in the hospital are usually met first by an RN. Verbal and non-verbal communication can directly change the patient’s attitude about the health care team and hospital. An RN in the emergency room who as a negative attitude may cause the patient to develop preconceived notions. If the patient is admitted to the hospital, they may have the same preconceived notions of negativity to all other nurses and health care workers during their stay. EI is especially important when first interacting with a person. Self-awareness of emotions and non-verbal communication can cause negative or positive repercussions. Your methods
