American students should definitely be required to learn a second language in school. It has economic benefits, it would facilitate global affairs, and it improves brain activity. The requirement that Americans students be bilingual would have international benefits. Being bilingual has many personal economical benefits. According to the university of Florida, fully bilingual Hispanics make, on average $7,000 per year more than there monolingual peers. This proves my claim that being bilingual can help you financially in the long run. Bilingualism helps facilitate global affairs. Only .6% of people in the embassy in Baghdad are fluent in Arabic.
