In Things Fall Apart, which was written by Chinua Achebe, the village of Umuofia is a tribal place where the surviving factor is being manly. The manliest person there is Okonkwo who earned his title through wrestling. Throughout the book there is mention of a murder of a women by a man from the nearest tribe, Mbaino. The murderer is the father of a boy called Ikemefuna. The tribe demanded that Okonkwo bring a virgin to replace the wife and he would watch over the father’s son, Ikemefuna. Which was written by Edwidge Danticat, Haiti is a closed off place fromthe rest of the world and the government there is unjust. In the first chapter Children of The Sea, there is a ship that is heading to America the is transporting the character of the first story. This character does not have a name and is writing in his journal about the one he is destined to marry. As the story goes on, the ship starts to leak with water and the character records this in his journal. “In any case, I know that my memory of you will live on there as I too become a child of the sea”(Danticat 28). The character records this tragedy before the sea claims him and this is how a force that they cannot control defeats a
