Being A Psychologist Is Very Difficult

Being a psychologist is very difficult because getting people to talking and express their feelings are hard.
I. Getting people to open up and express themselves can be difficult.

Children and even adults don’t want to have to express their feelings to a stranger. People tend to stereotype psychologists. They think they don’t do anything but give a little advice and take large amounts of money for it.
A. Children and teenagers are forced to go to a psychologist a lot of the time. They feel the need to rebel and not talk because they feel pressured into it.
B. The main challenge for psychologists is getting the client to trust them. There is nothing without gaining the trust of the client and growing a relationship with each other.
C. Adults are just as hard to get to talk as children. Some adults come and open up completely. Others come wanting help but are not comfortable asking for it. Although adults understand more that it’s good to talk it’s human nature to shut down and bottle things up.
II. There are many years of schooling you hae to go through to be a psychologist.
A. There are three different degrees needed. The first is a bachelor’s degree. The second is a masters degree and the third is a Doctorate degree.

III. There are many different types of psychology. Two of the most common types are child and clinical.
A. Child psychologists have everything to do with children. Child psychologists work with kids with all different type of problems. Some of the reasons children might go to a psychologist would be because they are troubled at home. These clients usually are the ones that are involved with drugs, alcohol, fighting and may even self harm themselves. Others could have had tram in their life and need someone outside of their social circle to talk to.
B. Psychologists also work with children that have mental, emotional, or social disabilities. Children of violence, children with autism, and ones that have been abused can benefit from professional help. Studies show that children get bored easily and don’t want to come to therapy resulting in them not being able to express themselves and them doing bad things. Making sessions where kids can interact and getting them to think is fun and a way to get them to open up.
C. Clinical psychology is another type of psychology. These psychologists aim to reduce the distress and improve the psychological wellbeing of clients. There are different varieties of illnesses clinical psychologists work with. Some of these illnesses include depression and anxiety, mental illness, neurological disorders, addictions, eating disorders, and learning disabilities. Clinical psychologists work with one particular group of people. This reason being it’s easier for the clients to trust the psychologist. They also usually work in one curtain place so the client doesn’t freak out. This type of psychology is more for illness and doctor like situations.
IV. Psychology Evaluations
A. A psychological evaluation is a formal assessment of a person’s current functioning. Psychological evaluations usually happen when a client first starts seeing a psychologist. This helps with them understanding you better and diagnosing your problems
B. Pediatricians often refer children and teens for evaluations to determine if there are any developmental delays, cognitive impairments, or symptoms leading to indicative childhood mental illnesses.
C. Evaluations many be requested by physicians or the legal system to decipher the extent of drug or alcohol problems. This test will determine the treatment the client needs to recover.
