Mast joined the club as a freshman who was a dedicated member and achieved over 200 hours of community service. As a sophomore, Mast was elected as club secretary and junior year achieved the status as Lieutenant Governor. At the close of her junior year, she was encouraged to run for the position of Governor.
“It wasn’t my idea to originally run as Governor, but the former Governor and Mrs. Stauffer urged me to consider it, so I finally decided to agree to it,” Mast said.

“Since I was running unopposed it wasn’t really a shock, but it definitely was exciting since it was made official,” Mast said.
With the new position came new and more responsibilities concerning Key Club. Mast is now in charge of 200 clubs and 10,504 members in Illinois and Eastern Iowa. Mrs. Jennifer Stauffer, sponsor of Key Club, showed her positivity about Mast’s new leadership position.
“Her position as the leader of 200+ clubs and 10,000 student members gives her the opportunity to affect many more service projects than if she only served the local club,” Mrs. Stauffer said.
She sends out weekly emails to the board of other Lieutenant Governors and is in charge of managing the social media accounts of Key Club. Her duties also include running numerous board meetings and attending out-of-state club functions representing the Illinois and Eastern Iowa Key Club.
Key Club member and senior Cameron Walther discussed how Mast’s leadership has impacted Key Club. “Abby leads very personally, she takes Key Club and it’s members seriously and treats them and thinks of them as family. I think she’s a great Governor and keeps people motivated and on task,” Walther
