Bellingshausen Sea Image Analysis

This Image shows newly formed sheet ice over the Bellingshausen Sea. The mass to the right of the image is an iceberg which likely broke off the land mass known as the antarctic peninsula due to rising sea and atmospheric temperatures. This picture was taken on November 5th, 2014 During an operation by NASA called Operation Icebridge which collected a number of other rare pictures.

The Bellingshausen Sea is a sea that is to the west of the antarctic peninsula. The Bellingshausen Sea contains two islands, one of which is called Alexander Island, and the other is Peter Island. Alexander Island is about 16,700 Sq. Miles. The Russian explorers Bellingshausen and Lazarev discovered this island and named it after the Russian Tsar Alexander
