The Belo Monte Dam is a hydroelectric dam complex currently undergoing construction; it is located along the Xingu River in the Brazillian state of Pará, and is the 3rd largest in the world. For the construction the take place two huge canals (500m wide x 75km long) will have to be dug out. The topic of whether the construction of the dam should proceed has caused great controversy.

Many people believe that the dam will help Brazil significantly, using the rainforest and other natural resources sustainably. This is the best option as it has the best output of energy and there is no need for anymore dams to be constructed.

Conclusion
It appears that the construction of the Belo Monte dam has a negative impact on the people and environment of Brazil.The leading negative causes is although the dam will create masses and masses of energy, only around ¾ of it will reach the population of Brazil, this is a very selfish act on behalf of Brazil's government.
Above all however, I believe that yes the dam will produce a lot of green, sustainable energy however all of this would be at the expense of the environment and people of Brazil. If this construction takes place it would be more of a selfish act than a helpful one.
The Brazilian government should consider other options before diving into the one which appears best on paper, considering the pros and cons
