Ben Carson's Inspiring Story
Ben Carson’s Inspiring Story
How would you feel if your parents were divorced, you were bullied and excluded because of your skin color, was very poor , and was called the “class dummy”? Maybe you have experienced one of these things, but Ben Carson went through it all. Ben had a difficulty learning, but everyone learns differently, right? Ben Carson learns best by reading. He would read all the time and that helped him immensely in school. One day in the fifth grade, Ben surprised his classmates by answering a difficult question correctly; everyone was amazed. He realized that he wasn’t so dumb after all. Even though Ben was known as the “class dummy,” he always strived for excellence.

He separated four sets of Siamese twins - two successful and two unsuccessful. Even though two of the surgeries he performed with Siamese twins were unsuccessful, he knew there was a reason why. He trusted in God to guide him through his journey, to lead him to more opportunities. He trusted that God would always be by his side.
After everything he did, Ben would always have new opportunities, such as getting invited to conferences, meetings, talking to children at schools about his experiences, and he even has his own movie. With the grace of God, Ben Carson was able to accomplish unbelievable things in his life. Throughout his journey, he learned to never say never because he wants to be willing to do whatever he believes God wants him to do. A passage I found interesting was: “Anytime Ben and his brother complained about the TV restrictions, Sonya Carson firmly held her ground and insisted: ‘If you boys keep reading books, someday people will be watching you on television!’” (Lewis 25) I found this interesting because this actually came true. This is something I am most likely not going to forget. Another thing I found unforgettable is that Ben had so much faith in God, he knew he could accomplish anything he set his mind to. Ben Carson inspires me because he worked so hard to achieve his goals in life. Ben Carson is my inspiration and I hope to be like him when I grow

To hear stories by Dr. Kim was interesting and I enjoyed so much. The one that I thought was amusing and yet informative upon traditional Indian Values was about deer hunting. His experience of needing to be quiet and observe, there is no need to be talking or asking questions. During the hunt, when Dr. Kim and his great great uncle were close to capturing a deer he had spoken and scared the deer. It was a lesson learned that usually the most effective learning technique is…

One of my favorite quotes from Billy Graham is, “Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened.” Like I said before, I will not have his opportunities, but because of him I am taking advantage of the ones given to me. He showed me the life I want, especially the life I want with God.…

What makes a true hero? Joseph Campbell created the cycle of the “hero’s journey” and many popular books and movies today fit the requirements of this cycle closely. The video states that this cycle is like a clock, starting and ending with status quo, however, the ending status quo is changed from the beginning as a result of the hero’s actions (What Makes A Hero?). Following the cycle of the “hero’s journey”, Creighton Brown can rightly be named as a true hero as he is taken to an unfamiliar land, receives guidance from an older, wiser mentor, and throughout the story undergoes changes and develops into a new person.…

There’s an old saying by Eleanor Roosevelt that states “You can never really live anyone else's life, not even your child's. The influence you exert is through your own life, and what you've become yourself.” I believe this statement is true. However, what Eleanor Roosevelt fails to mention was who, or what kind of people come into our lives and influence us to change for the better. Do these particular individuals shape our paths, or our futures? Or when these people come into our lives is it meant to happen for a reason? No one knows for sure, but when we meet someone who leaves such a profound effect on our hearts and minds, like foot prints in the sand we remember them forever. Ben Carson always mentions that his mother helped shaped his life, as well as his family, students, teachers, his strong belief in god, and his love for books helped shaped his future. Throughout middle school, high school and college these key influences would lead him to what he has become today.…

I can relate to his claim of wanting to be able to control the environment of the classroom. In result of being able to control the environment of the classroom, I will be able to never feel stressed when being called on, incorrect, judged, and failing. I find it very intriguing that Palmer knows exactly how I am feeling as a student and he puts them into words and analyzes why I seem to feel that way. He puts it in perspective why I am the student that I am today. Although I am privileged that I did not have any at home troubles but I can connect on the level of being judged or failed in a classroom environment. The education system in the U.S. is at flaw, “But young people remain marginalized in our society… young people are told that they have no experience worth having, no voice worth speaking, no future of any note, no significant role to play.” Palmer claims that this is the sole reason students are silent, not because of stupidity, but as they want to protect themselves in order to survive the harsh scrutiny of the U.S.,…

People often have thoughts about other people having more enviable achievements than themselves do, but even if they think about doing things to change, their lack of perseverance still causes a poor outcome next time. Benjamin Franklin is one of the best example of a successful image throughout the history. Although having no eminent family background, he had himself work-hard to become a admirable person, one of the Founding Fathers of United States. Everyone fairly has 24 hours per day, yet he was able to surpass so many people in different realms. Benjamin Franklin had been through innumerable setbacks in his entire life, but other than making up excuses for his previous failures, on the other hand, Benjamin Franklin faced, understood,…

Ben Carson: gifted, intellectual, and one of the most talented surgeons of his generation. Those are just a few words to describe the well-renown and inspiring Dr. Ben Carson. Unfortunately, people didn’t always use these words to describe the talented surgeon. At a young age Ben Carson was forced to overcome obstacles in school. Carson struggled academically throughout elementary school, and was often referred to as the “class dummy”. Carson began to rise to the top in middle and throughout high school, and he eventually graduated high school with honors. The talented young black man went on to attend Yale University with a scholarship, earning a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. After Yale, Carson went into medical school at the University of Michigan, where he specialized in neurosurgery. One writer describes Carson’s life obstacles as inspiring, “The lessons imparted by Dr. Carson are inspiring because they are an echo of his own life. He faced more than his share of hard knocks on the rough necked streets of Detroit” (BASU).…

According to Matt K. Lewis of the Week Magazine,” Now, Ben Carson is very much against political correctness in general. He makes a point of saying so. During his famed National Prayer Breakfast speech, he said: "PC is dangerous because, you see, this country, one of the founding principles was freedom of thought and freedom of expression. And [political correctness] muffles people. It puts a muzzle on them. And, at the same time, keeps people from discussing important issues, while the fabric of this society is being changed." The issue on being politically correct has kept many people from saying what they want to say or feel like saying for risk of being seen as a prejudiced person. We must stand up for what we believe in and not suppress our thoughts, and feelings. According to LifeCourse Associates, magazine article “Another factor is widespread disaffection with the political establishment. Voters fed up with years of public-sector paralysis are buying into the argument that political correctness stifles the ability of our nation’s leaders to speak freely and act decisively “(Why do millennials love political correctness? Generational Values, Howe) According to a Rasmussen poll, 71% of Americans think “political correctness is a problem in America today,” up from 58% four years ago—with little difference across age groups. At a campaign event in New Hampshire, back in October, Ben Carson…

For example, the president of the United States Barack Obama. They are inferring to us that racial inequalities have been eradicated. White Americans would argue that racism doesn’t exist because “we have a black president.” On the contrary, since Barack Obama has been president, racism appears to have gotten worse. In "Gray Matter, the Stuff That Really Matters", Ben Carson argues that race is an irrelevant concept as of today because he had the materials to reach a higher education and achieve a higher place in social class. He states he doesn't speak about race because he is a neurosurgeon and he operates on human brains which makes up who they actually are in reality. There was little discussion of who Jesus Christ was or his message. "The fact that there is little or nothing describing the physical appearance of Jesus should serve as an indicator of the irrelevance of racial descriptions for someone with such an important mission." (Carson 158). In other words in order to thrive in this world we need to look at things from another perspective; see the bigger picture and not let superficial peripheral problems get in our way because that will create barriers between one another and will separate…
