I think conflict is so important for drama like the heart of drama . you can even say without conflict , there is no story. Because conflict is the suspense and the excitement that makes drama from the begainning to the climax. The inward confilct tells us about the character, his weaknesses, how he thinks. The outward conflict tells us what happens in the drama.

At first, the inward conflict is Hamlet wants to kill his uncle, Claudius. The reason why because he knows Claudius has murdered his father and the fact has been sure by Claudius' altitude in the play. Also, the hasty marriage between Claudius and Gertrude is another reason that leads to Claudius' death. So His mother's marriage to Claudius deeply hurts Hamlet and he feels that it may break his heart. Hamlet decides to revenge for his father. But hamlet does not kill Claudius when Claudius is praying, because Hamlet does not want to see Claudius' sins is forgiven by god and he is send to heaven after he dies. Revenge to Hamlet is not so much about just killing Claudius, it’s about making sure he suffers in Hell.

In addition, the fake friendship that Hamlet has with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern is also another outward conflict throughout the play. A lot of tension between Hamlet and his friends has risen because Claudius uses Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to spy on Hamlet to find out if he is actually mad or not, which makes Hamlet feel distrusted because they were working for Claudius behind his back. With Hamlet being mislead, he says to his friends, “…You were sent for, and there is a kind of confession in your looks, which your modesties have not craft enough to color: I know the good king and queen have sent for you" Hamlet’s friends try to deceive him, which only makes him lose trust for them and causes Hamlet to be against them from then on. Moreover, with the anger that Hamlet has for his friends, he sets both of them up to be killed. Hamlet gladly admits to Horatio how he got revenge on Rosencrantz and Guildenstern by Claudius’ previous letter for his death, and forcing it on his friends.

The inward conflict is Hamlet's struggles with suicidal thoughts, Hamlet's father comes to him as a ghost and tells him that King Claudius has murdered him. The ghost tells Hamlet to seek revenge for him. Hamlet is distraught by the death of his father and also by the marriage of his mother to his uncle. All of the grief that he experiences leads Hamlet to contemplate suicide. We see his famous soliloquy, "to be, or not to be; that is the question:" Hamlet is grief-stricken yet he is uncertain that if he were to end his life, things would be any better.

Although Hamlet is characterized as relatively rational in his acts, he nonetheless still possess a strong desire to enact just vengeance on those who have wronged him. While Hamlet arrives at a propitious opportunity to kill Claudius in Act III, while the unknowing murderer sits in prayer while Hamlet, dagger in hand, watches, he ultimately chooses not to, postponing the act until his uncle “is drunk asleep, or in his rage / Or in th' incestuous pleasure of his bed / At game a-swearing, or about some act / That has no relish of salvation in ’t” (III.iii.90-94). Hamlet wishes not only for his uncle to pay the ultimate price for his sins – his life – he wants Claudius to suffer in eternal damnation, reflecting the intensity of Hamlet’s feeling (Bloom 20). Only now do audiences realize the full extent to which Hamlet wishes for vengeance. Even among Hamlet’s wit and the guise of his “antic disposition”, passion and hatred…

After two months of mourning for his dead father, Hamlet encounters his father’s ghost, who tells him that it was his brother, King Claudius who killed him. Hamlet then promises his father that he will get revenge on Claudius however, his inability to act prolongs Claudius’s death. Hamlet must first find out if it was actually his father’s ghost and not Satan trying to trick him so he modifies a play that shows a similarity to the murder of Hamlet’s father at the hand of Claudius. Claudius leaves before the play before it ends and berates himself for the murder, “Oh, my offence is rank, it smells to heaven. The responsibility of revenge on the perpetrator falls to Hamlet, since he believes his father was murdered. Hamlet learned the events that unfolded during his father’s murder in the garden from a ghost that claimed to be the spirit of King Hamlet. In both soliloquies, his desire and drive to kill Claudius is “prompted to [his] revenge by heaven and hell” (2.2.547). His thoughts of revenge derive from seeing his father’s thought to be spirit in purgatory. The ghost that visited Hamlet may be the “devil” that “assume[d] a pleasing shape” (2.2.561-562) by making himself appear as the spirit of his father tempting him to sin, or could indeed be his father wanting him to redeem his soul. Even though Hamlet is not certain he believes the ghost since it answered his suspicion in the death of his father and the quick marriage of…

Throughout the play, Hamlet expresses his internalised battle between his mission to avenge his father’s death and his morality through his long soliloquies. For example, in Act 3, Scene 3, Hamlet has a golden opportunity to kill Claudius in his bedchambers but decides against it when he discovers Claudius is praying. He avers that to kill Claudius then, when he is confessing his sins, would be to send him to heaven. He exclaims that ‘this is hire and salary, not revenge’, saying that the action of killing Claudius mid-prayer would warrant a reward instead of being an act of revenge. These conflicting feelings within Hamlet cause him to be indecisive with his actions. As England was in the midst of transitioning from barbaric medieval times to the more refined Renaissance period during the time of Hamlet, Shakespeare uses Hamlet’s confliction to highlight his progressive thinking in comparison to Claudius’ uncouth ways and to signal to his audiences the dawn of a new…

He utilizes the play as a test of his uncle's guilt, stating, "Out of my weakness and my melancholy…The play's the thing / Wherein I'll catch the conscience of the King" (60:613-17). Even after Claudius' abrupt departure and suspicious reaction to the play depicting the king's murder, Hamlet is still unable to kill Claudius when the opportunity presents itself in the church. He states, "Now might I do it pat, now ‘a is a-praying / And now I'll do't. And so ‘a goes to heaven, / And so I am revenged. That would be scanned" (85:73-75). Hamlet reasons that because his uncle is praying, it would be unwise to commit murder since Claudius would be sent to heaven. Hamlet believes the new king should suffer in hell for the rest of his life as a result of all the evil things he has done; rewarding him in heaven would not be fitting, or just. Despite the truth in it, he uses this fact as an excuse not to spare his uncle momentarily because he is indecisive. In reality, Hamlet is unable to act and becomes rather weak when attempting to exact his father's revenge. He would rather allow fortune to decide his uncle's…

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are told by Claudius to spy on Hamlet, they "..draw him on to pleasures and to gather...Whether aught to us unknown afflicts him thus" (II.ii.15). Rosencrantz and Guildenstern betray Hamlet by agreeing to spy on Hamlet to please their King, Claudius which allow deception to corrupt their friendship. Hamlet tells his mother "..my two schoolfellows,/Whom I will trust as I will adders fang'd.." (III.iv.204-205). This shows that Hamlet is no longer fooled by their false friendship and also shows the corruptive force of deception. Hamlet describes them as, "a sponge that soaks up the King's countenance, his rewards, his authorities."(IV,II,2) Hamlet knows that they are loyal to the king and for this reason he keeps his "antic disposition" when he is around them. Hamlet finds the letter ordering his own execution and switches the letter with one he forged telling England to execute Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Hamlet doesn’t feel guilty of this act because he believes they are guilty by association by working with Claudius, and leads them to their deaths which is caused by Hamlets deception towards…

With Claudius’s reaction to his play The Mousetrap, Hamlet believes the ghost was telling the truth, and Claudius is the murderer. Later Hamlet notices Claudius kneeling to pray, draws his sword, approaches the king, and does…nothing. Once again, Hamlet has an opportunity to kill Claudius, but chooses to delay his revenge after thinking about what he is about to do. As Hamlet is thinking, he realizes that Claudius would go to heaven if he was killed while praying, whereas Claudius “took [his] father grossly, full of bread, / With all his crimes broad blown, as flush as May” (III.iii.81-82). Hamlet’s contemplative nature leads him to realize that he wants to send Claudius to hell as well, allowing for the ultimate revenge. Always the philosopher, Hamlet stops to think about what would happen if he killed Claudius at that moment in time, resulting in another delay and no action. Hamlet is given the perfect opportunity for revenge, but chooses to wait for the right moment, proving his indecision and contemplative…
