Benchmarking
really enjoyed reading your post about Apple being in an industry that depends on the process of benchmarking. I would also agree that Apples take no prisoner approach is one of the reasons in which the company is so successful in their particular industry. Apple is one of the leaders in the consumer electronics industry. Apple as a company strives on making various programs and devices convenient for it’s customers. From the making of Mac computers and IPhones, Apples exemplifies being a company that is always on the cutting edge of their particular industry. According to Dr. Vassilis Kelessidis (2000) benchmarking is a process in which an organization strives to improve upon their performance by continuously identifying, understanding, and adapting outstanding practices and processes found inside and outside an organization. There are five phases that are used in the implementation of benchmarking; Planning, Analysis, Integration, Action, and Maturity (Kelessidis, 2000). Benchmarking is also used to identify a company’s key success factors, and implement methods in which such factors can be enhanced (Blocher, Stout, Juras, and Cokins, 2013)
According to this definition not all benchmarking is done external to an organization. Since apple is one of the best in its industry they could look to benchmark internally. This means using internal data, and departments to improve and develop the company’s best practices (Muras, 2004). Internal benchmarking elements the problems of whether or not the information found is useful to the industry as well as the individual company as well as the use of old data that are used in external benchmarking (Muras, 2004). Apple has used and can continue to use benchmarking to improve applications and graphical user interfaces. One benchmarking method that has been used by Apple would be having Apple analyst test applications of competitors for time consumption and difficulty (Apple Inc, 2012). With this particular

    1. Yes, the search of the vehicle was lawful. The officer smelled marijuana while Ross rolled down the window, during a routine traffic stop, giving the officer probable cause to search the vehicle. The probable cause was based on the officers’ personal observation. “Police officers may use their personal training, experience, and expertise to infer probable cause from situations that may not be obviously criminal.” (Gaines 160) The officer then found a pound of marijuana giving probable cause for arrest.…

"Gryphon" is a short story by Charles Baxter that was published in 1985. The first person point of view Baxter chose allows us to understand the story better. It also allows Tommy to portray his personal feelings toward his substitute teacher, Miss Ferenczi. The diction Baxter uses for Miss Ferenczi is rather interesting. Sometimes, when she talks to the children, she uses words that most forth grade children wouldn't understand. Our understanding of why Baxter chose her complex and confusing diction is to expand the minds of the students. Miss Ferenczi changed Mr. Hibler's forth grade students.…

It is a quick process because they have the ability to work with the same partners that share a similar system. Another reason of why the organization chooses this method is that there will not be issues of confidentiality and ethics between the comparison departments. This will help have an easy access to data of the other departments that will be used to perform the comparison and improve the productivity of the nurses. On the other hand, competitive benchmarking is more challenging, since this activity is being done directly with competitors in the same industry, this can hinder collaboration and not receive the necessary information to continue with the process of benchmarking. Although its difficulties, competitive benchmarking has its benefits that will allow the partners of both facilities to share their best practices and make the environment friendly. Worth mentioning that this method is recommended for large organizations because they have enough space and supplies to support quality for continues…
