The decision that Mr. Gordon and Cadman Foods faces is one that can be clearly solved when the situation it faces is broken down to the core and certain fundamentals are clearly understood. To make the analysis more palatable, it is important that two key elements are understood. The first is that the contribution margin must equal the difference between the selling price and the variable cost price not including the cost of tomato’s, and secondly the cost of the tomato crop is a sunk cost regardless of whether the cost is an average or a ratio based on quality. If any of the crop is not used, or if the costs of tomatoes was applied prior to optimizing production, not all the costs are captured in the analysis. This was one of the findings of our analysis and a key omission made by both Bill Cooper’s and Charles Myers strategies.…

Tom Simmons, Marketing Manager for Green Acres Seed Company, is trying to make a strategy for increasing the company’s sale and profit even though province of Ontario has a highly competitive seed corn market. By setting a promising marketing strategy, the company could take over small part of market share from leading company, and this would result that Green Acre could get high reputation and awareness in Ontario as well as in Canada. Currently, seed leading company is Pioneer that has more than 50 percent of the market, and Green Acre has about 11 percent. When we read the background paragraph, there are two types of corn: grain corn and silage corn. Grain corn is harvested only the ear and used for commercial purpose. On the other hands, silage corn is harvested the entire plant and used for feeding livestock. Especially, leading company and 2nd and 3rd company are focusing on grain corn, because this product can be converted into commercial product, and this would make more profit than silage corn. For Green Acre’s position of grain corn product, it is very hard to penetrate and take market share in the grain corn product area. Thus, it is proposed that Tom Simmons, Marketing Manager for the company came up with solution by targeting silage producer with hybrids having high silage performance attributes, and average price of six varieties is . There are three reasons for choosing this strategy. First, market leader in Ontario is vague. Second, the silage strategy make the company differentiate from competitors. Third, Green Acre has better silage performance characteristic than competitors. In order to catch some useful information from 400 farmers they did market research.…

This particular class session started with Nicholas Kristoff’s Half the Sky documentary on FGM. It is difficult not to get too emotional in this course because the film showed how Ms. Edna Adan, an FGM victim herself, stood up against it and later on established an organization that works towards its elimination. Ms. Adan is a truly inspiring person. She worked at the United Nations (one of which was being the WHO representative of Djibouti) and used all her lifelong earnings and retirement benefits to build a hospital in her home country, the Somaliland. She narrated how she cashed up all her savings and available resources to start an office under a tree next to the present site of the building.…

Plant Nutrients Inc. (PNI) is operating in an industry requiring constant innovation in order to combat declining prices. In the case of PNI, it is critical that Brian Dunwoodie acknowledge where the company’s competitive advantage lies, and continue to leverage PNI’s ability to sell to small farms well. PNI should incorporate a seed business into its current business model through a strategic partnership with Larson Seeds, giving PNI the ability to offer a complete agronomic input package. The addition of a seed business will position PNI for continued success with small farms, as well as provide a tool to grow their business with medium farms, which account for the majority of crop production in PNI’s market area. This decision satisfies the performance standards set by Plant Nutrients International, the parent company, of 2% yearly sales growth and a 13% ROI (See Ex.3 for projected financial performance).…

In the book Half the Sky by Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn there were many arguments about the UNFPA which was created in 1969, giving the award of Population Award gold medal to Qian Xinzhong, who was forcing abortions in China and was the head of the family planning program. This set up a controversial issue with the United States government because it couldn 't do anything to hurt China so it got rid of the funding for UNFPA. The United States government wanted to bring up the issue of family planning especially with birth control use, abstinence-only programs and the control of abortions in Africa. For instance, after a passing nun doubtfully questions the dilapidated state of Esperanza’s house, Esperanza wishes, “I knew then I had to have a house” (Cisneros 5). The shabbiness of Esperanza’s house exhibits her impoverished lifestyle. Esperanza’s house representing the restraint of Esperanza’s poor living conditions, the new house Esperanza hopes for portrays her effort for freedom from her economic situation. Esperanza’s resolve to escape her economic situation is also portrayed in her depiction of the four trees outside her house,” who grew despite concrete” (Cisneros 75). Growing outside concrete, these four trees exemplify Esperanza’s resilience and persistence in enduring the shame of her economic status. The trees modeling Esperanza’s perseverance (AbP), these trees also exhibit Esperanza’s persistence to escape the humiliation and oppression of her socioeconomic status. Braving the ignominy of her economic status shapes her determination to overcome the challenges of her socioeconomic position. Likewise, Esperanza’s ambition to escape her current situation is repeated in her story of living on Mango Street. Retelling the shame and indignity of living on Mango Street, Esperanza says,” I am too strong for her [Mango] to keep me here forever” (Cisneros 110). The confidence Esperanza has in saying this shows the empowerment and courage…
