Teamwork is not a new process in health care. Since the beginning of organized health care individual health care providers have had assistance from other providers. The teamwork model is changing in modern health care to include the staff involved in the implementation of the decisions of the team. Diverse and synergistic teams are established to create procedures, accomplish goals, and brainstorm possible outcomes for problems presented to the team. “One of the biggest benefits of teamwork is synergy—the creation of a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. Synergy occurs when teams use their resources to the fullest and achieve, through collective performance, far more than is otherwise possible” (Lombardi, Schermerhorn, & Kramer, 2007, p. 76).…

Teamwork and collaboration is what nursing are all about. It is important to be a good team player and help your fellow nurses. It is also important to collaborate with other team members, to be all on the same page about what the plan of care will be and what is going on with the patient from different standpoints. Inter-Professional Practice In the inter-professional health care team, a leader is a valuable member who works with others to provide high-quality care, ensuring patient safety and facilitating positive staff development in long-term care (Frankel, 2008). In many cases, the LPN is seen as a leader, taking charge, influencing and guiding others towards a mutual goal (Hood, 2010). Also, assigning roles and providing guidance to unregulated care providers (UCPs), assisting in maintaining safe work environments and advocating for residents as necessary (Rogers, 2012). Guidance is offered in The College of Licensed Practical Nurses in the form of the Standards of Practice document and Practice Guidelines documents (Rogers, 2012). Moreover, the several leadership styles that we have discussed in class can either complement or diminish the standards of practice. These styles include autocratic, democratic, laissez-faire, and participative. However, this paper will focus on the democratic style which I have identified as my own leadership style. Personal Leadership Style To begin, there are many personal characteristics that have led me to identify with the democratic leadership style. A democratic leader is one who makes members of the group feel more engaged in the process, and encourages group members to share ideas and opinions, even though the leader has the final say over decisions (Nursing Times Learning, 2008). Some other personal characteristics include working in a group to make major decisions and considering each person as a unique individual as each have their own unique personalities and abilities (Anderson, 2009). Just before entering this program, I was a lunch supervisor at a restaurant. I worked as a hostess, server, busser, and barista along side two to…

Critical thinking is extremely important because it helps during the process of weighing one’s options before making decisions. From my experience success is obtained by setting goals and attaining progress. Over the years I have learned many skills that are exceedingly helpful such as planning and communicating effectively. As a rule, I tend to analyze every option and potential outcome before making a sound judgement, this however has been an action that I’ve had to develop.
