America! A country where we have freedom of speech, religion, fear, and want. It is a country that has given people more liberty and justice. It is often said that to be an American you sharing a commitment to a set of values and ideals. These are set and stone rules based on our country. To be or to become an American, one does not have to be a particular religion, or ethnic background. As Americans, we have more privileges than any other country in the entire world so we should appreciate everything that is offered to us. These freedoms are what set us apart from other parts of the world. Along with the name comes a number of different benefits such as freedom of speech, to be able to express your opinion and say whatever you want, freedom of religion and equality for all. Being an American is much more than living in the United States. As Americans one of the privileges that we have is
the freedom of speech. In the document The Bill of Rights: A Transcription it outlines “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of…or abridging the freedom of speech...of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances”. We have this amendment of freedom of speech and no one can change it. The freedom of speech gives us the right to be able to express our opinions. Some examples of freedom of speech would be the right to speak out against the government, include the right to speak, the rights to protest on school grounds or within the community. Overall living in the United States is not the only way that we are Americans we have many freedoms. In the speech From The Four Freedoms by Franklin D. Roosevelt it quotes “economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants- everywhere in the world”. In other words Roosevelt believes that want is something that is experienced by everyone in the world.This freedom is important because we need to know what is going on in the world. For example, you do not need to worry about where or when your next meal will come from, how to clothe yourself or how to get a roof over your head. Roosevelt he states “Every person to worship God in his own way- everywhere in the world”. Roosevelt’s point is that you do not have to be a certain religion to live in the United States. Freedom of religion is important because we all need to be able to have the right to believe and trust their own religion. You do not have to be white to be an American. In the united states there are all kinds of cultures/religions, for example, African Americans, Mexicans, Muslims, Chinese etc. Overall these ethnicities are accepted here in the United States. To be an American it is much more than just living in the United States. I think that we living in the United States, we have a lot of freedoms. We have four different freedoms which are Freedom of speech, religion,want and fear. All of these freedoms are important because it leads to expressions and original thoughts and overall a high quality of life. Freedom is a condition in which people have the opportunity to speak, act and pursue happiness without unnecessary
restrictions.
