Author Lumumba states, “By railways and roads, by reclamation of swamps and deserts, and by a system fair trade and competition, we have added to the prosperity and wealth of these lands, and checked famine and disease… . We are endeavoring to teach the native races to conduct their own affairs with justice and humanity, and to educate them” (Lumumba, 1961, para. 2). By colonizing South America literacy rates will higher as well as survival rates. There can be more ways of transportation, better education and jobs for South Americans. Although this is true, the scramble for Africa caused wars and genocide. In a video by McCormack he states that, In Rwanda during 1994 there was a genocide because Belgium made the Tutsi extenders of Belgium rule and the Hutu a workforce. (McCormack, 2006). The Hutu did not find this fair and started killing people that were Tutsi’s. Innocent people were also being killed all because of something started by colonizing Africa. Colonizing South America may also lead to wars and genocide. In the book “Things Fall Apart” it also states, “It is estimated that up to 3 million people died as a result of fighting, disease, and starvation during the 30 month conflict” (ThingsFallApart, 2012, page 20). Killing innocent people because of how Americans want a certain country to be is unfair and selfish.
