Drilling in the United States will benefit us in many ways. According, to Portal Seven, our current unemployment rate under President Obama is at 9.4%; that’s the U-6 report. Drilling in the United States would open up many job's for the U.S. citizens and lower the U-6 report substantially. The people who oppose the drilling say that not everyone can work for an oil company, so there wouldn’t be that much jobs created. It will create jobs maybe …show more content…
not directly, but indirectly by opening up more gas stations that more and more people can work in or even own and make bigger profits because of the lower gas importee prices we would charge for a gallon of gas.
According to the Institute for Analysis of Global Security, we spend 50 billion a year in the Middle East for the importation of oil to the United States. OPEC right now is the controller of oil prices, but if we were to start producing oil and selling it to other counties, we could beat OPEC prices and then in turn, make us money because everyone would be buying oil from us. If all the other counties are buying oil from us that will create so much revenue for us if we spend 50 billion a year on oil we could cut that down to half or lower and then charge other places 30-40 billion and the United States would be better off.
The United States has some of the largest quantities of oil locked up in the outer continental shelf, located in Alaska and under federal lands. However, Atlanic.com says that the U.S. has a total of 198 billion barrels of oil and the only other place that come close to us is South America at 129 billion barrels. Furthermore, people who oppose this will say that the United States doesn’t have enough oil to last for years, but as previously stated, the United States has the highest supply of oil barrels out of any other county. Therefore, this argument does not provide an adequate basis for making such a claim. In addition, other people who oppose this say that it doesn’t make a difference and it wouldn’t matter to drill in the United States. But as someone who supports drilling in our country, it would matter because of the jobs and the economic growth.
According to the Penn Well Corporations, the Offshore drilling market faces a uncertain year.
They claim that all these companies are spending million's on offshore rigs to drill the oil which hurt our economy and makes our gas prices higher, along with buying more and more new rigs and just letting their old ones go without the proper preparations of dismantling. Penn Well also goes on to say that the new rigs are not holding the same values they were selling at last year, for $650,000, and now this year they are only selling for $375,000-$500,000 and are built for over millions. Penn Well says that the delivery of these new rigs will be pushed back to 2019 or later, growing into an over supplied market.
Another, reason we shouldn’t drill offshore is because of the hazards it would face with wild life and the ocean. For example, the BP oil spill killed lots of animals and was such a problem for the ocean that we didn’t know how to clean it or help the wild life that it hurt. There were many devastating things that happened during the BP oil spill and that’s what gave the oil companies bad names; if they drill within in the United States land mass, this would lower the risks for oil spills as large as the BP oil …show more content…
spill.
According to NPR, it took 5 years for the BP oil spill to be completely cleaned up.
Animals for covered in oil and couldn't fly or move, turtle babies died because they couldn’t get what they needed to survive, and many other ocean life was impacted. Yes, this was a spill and not a normal case and this could happen anywhere you are drilling, but lets say your drilling in Alaska and it did happen. It wouldn’t be as nearly detrimental as it is to someplace in the middle of the ocean. People who might oppose this might say if we drilled closer to land and something like this happened it could affect animals and people and even homes in some cases. Yes, it would hurt all of those things, but the reason why it spread so fast is because it was all started in water and we all know how fast water moves from one place to
another.
Drilling in a country with the most oil and the biggest resources, would lower the unemployment rate, save the money spent on big rigs going everywhere to drill for oil, save for a huge oil spill, and would allow for huge economic gain and huge jobs created. Knowing that we have 198 million barrels of oil the largest out of any country in the world, the United States shouldn’t have to depend on OPEC to decide the oil prices we should be able to tell everyone else what they need to pay you for oil. We could cut a lot of our debt down and be better off as a county. It all sounds like win-win so lets stop listening to all the negatives and look at the positives. Lets work to help the country we love prosper and open up jobs for everyone.
