These different fields of study are involved in a certain career choice a person would like to acquire. These mental characteristics of a person are associated with psychology being that it is “the science of the mind or of mental states and processes” (dictionary.com). The psychological benefits of a career such as computer science are very complex however, in order for one to get far within this field; they must first be able to comprehend the importance of technological terms. A type of intelligence that is beneficial towards computer science is called artificial intelligence. “Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the area of computer science focusing on creating machines that can engage on behaviors that humans consider intelligent” (thinkquest). Due to psychological discoveries about the way humans behave, think, interact, and create. Researchers have been able to mimic human beings into machines in this exact same way. It is important for a person within this field to have recognition of the brain’s parts and functions. This is simply because this is the first step in order to create such an intelligence. Without the correct comprehension of the complexity of neural networks, which is the root of intelligence, one wouldn’t be able to create AI. Not only does AI involve this aspect of psychology but it also includes language, methods of learning, and perception. Most of these human characteristics have not only been applied to machines such as robots, but computers as well. Computers have become the most common type of artificial intelligence known today. If you think about it, there are AI’s integrated within each smart phone. You can talk into the speaker asking for a certain command and it will respond with whatever it is that you need. In this case, reasoning between computer and human has taken place. Reasoning in psychological terms,

The human brain is so complex that the technology we have today could not replicate a fully conscious mind. Individuals have progressed the works of machines way beyond their original structure. Computers have faster software that allows them to work much quicker, even though their response time is faster, the computer itself does not understand the information it is giving or being asked of it. For a computer program to have a strong AI it must have genuine expression and be able to answer questions that are equivalent to a person.…

The initial question that must be answered before tackling the mind/computer problem is how do you define a mind? This is something that philosophers have been trying to answer for hundreds of years, long before the invention of the computer. Renee Descartes supported the concept of ‘dualism ' which is the belief that the mind is a separate non-physical entity associated with the body during its life. On the other hand, behaviorism holds the notion that the mind does not exist but rather patterns of behavior and our pre-dispositions to such behavior. Functionalism is another school of thought that has come to light recently and draws its theory from computer technology. Functionalism believes that the mind is simply a program and the body, its hardware. With all the different theories, none of them have been able to answer the question on whether computers are similar enough to the human brain to have intelligence.…
