In the US, estimates of 300,000 sport-related concussions are reported annually. Research has shown that football is the most frequently affected sport with 47% of players injured. It has been determined that retired players greatly suffer from Alzheimer syndrome than any other group. “La ilaha ila Allah; Muhammadur-rasul Allah,” There is no god but Allah; Muhammad (PBUH) is the Messenger of Allah. This essential phrase in Islam is termed “Shahadah” which literally means “to witness” and is the first pillar of Islam. Any Muslim or any individual that wants to convert to Islam must recite and more importantly, must truly believe this statement. It is the first words that are heard through the ears of a newborn, and is stressed from thereon as soon as an individual is capable of rationale. It is stressed in prayer everyday, five times. The first part clearly illustrates the oneness of Allah, acknowledging His absolute superiority and power. By reciting this, one truly believes that only Allah is worthy of worship. The second part of the Shahadah involves the belief in Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as the final messenger of Allah. When reciting this, one has faith in the guidance of Muhammad and his life (Sunnah). It is interesting then to examine why Islam, a religion that emphasizes the worship of Allah alone, places so much significance on the last messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).…

Muhammad want muslims to be “constant in prayer” to keep them grounded (217). It can be used to give constant thanks, but it is also a reminder that they are not the center of everything and that God is in control (217). They are basically just creatures placed in this world by their “Creator” or God (217). How Muhammad came about the prayer started with his Night Journey to Heaven, Muhammad traveled to heaven to meet God who told him Muslims should pray fifty times a day. He later stopped to meet Moses who scoffed at the idea of fifty prayers knowing that people would not be willing to do it, so he made Muhammad go back and negotiate with God several times until Muhammad had enough and settled on five (217). The times set for prayer are “on arising, when sun reaches it zenith, its mid-decline, sunset, and before retiring (217).” The timing is not necessarily strict, especially when there is a threat to your life for praying, but it is recommended (218). How they prayed was based off of Muhammad’s actions which included washing oneself before prayer to “purify the body and symbolically the soul” and sitting in an upright position at the beginning of the prayer while later lowering yourself until your head touches the ground which is the highlight of the prayer (218). It is also preferred that they pray in a mosque for Friday Night Prayer while facing the direction of Mecca (218). When praying they pray for “praise,…

    Prophet Mohammad's Manner

All praise be to Allah alone, and may His peace and blessings be upon His messenger and bondsman our Prophet Mohammed, his family and his companions. The objective of this concise pamphlet is to explain how prophet Mohammed (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to perform his prayers. I would like to present this explanation to every male and female Muslim so that they may strive to take up the Prophet's manner in performing their prayers as a model for them. It was narrated by A1 Bukhari that Prophet Mohammed (Peace and blessings of Allah be on him) had said: "Perform your prayers in the same manner you had seen me doing." Therefore, here is the explanation for the Prophet's manner of prayer: 1. To perform completely the ablution, adopting the method commanded by Allah in the Quran: "O ye who believe, when ye prepare for prayer, wash your faces and your hands (and arms) to the elbows, rub your heads(with water) and (wash) your feet to the ankles."(S:6) The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) said: "Prayer without ablution is invalid." 2. To turn one's face and whole body towards the Ka'aba, The Holy House at Makkah, intending by heart to perform the prayer which he wants to fulfill, whether it is an obligatory prayer or a supererogatory prayer, the worshipper in all cases, should not pronounce his intention openly, because neither the Prophet nor his companions used to utter the intention for prayer. Thus, pronouncing the intention for prayer in audible voice is a heresy and an illicit action. Whether the individual be an Imam or performs his prayer individually, he should make (A Sutra) i.e. a curtain for his prayer.…
