In Santa Cruz County in the city of Watsonville the gang recruitment has increase by double. More and more young Latino kids are getting recruited to be the gangs. The two gangs that has established in Watsonville is Sureños to the south and Norteños to the north. Watsonville is a small-town with population of 51,199 according to the 2010 census. The violence and crimes has increase through the past years. The Santa Cruz Probation has been trying to reduce the juvenile crime in Watsonville. The Santa Cruz Probation has created programs throughout the years to keep kids out of the streets. The transition from middle school to high school was difficult to adjust and understand. Being affiliated with gangs did not help improve my life. One day a high school teacher referred me to the Azteca Program. She explains me the great benefits that the Azteca Program was going to have in my life. My grades for high school we’re horrible and to make things worse the school considered me “gang affiliated”. For three years, I attended to the Azteca Program and enjoy the support and the impact that the program was having in my life. Now, I want to go back to the program and evaluated the Azteca Program. The program has shown a great progress over the past nine years since they established the program in the city of Watsonville. The program is a non-profit organization that has a co-partnership with the Santa Cruz County Probation Office, PVUSD (Pajaro Valley Unified School District), and other non-profit programs that are local in the community. The program has not been evaluated since they established. Special grants and donations fund the program. The program has their own board members that keeps the program running. The program is located in the Santa Cruz Probation office in Watsonville, CA. The program established their soccer team in Soccer Central Arena where they play with adult soccer teams. In Watsonville soccer is a big thing for the community. The community has about 50 adult teams, 2 soccer clubs, 2 outdoor soccer leagues, 80 indoors teams and soccer arena. Soccer for the community is not only a sport. Soccer brings passion, commitment, loyalty, friendship, and family. The city of Watsonville has two high school that are well known around the nation due to their skills soccer team.
