Benjamin Frank Monologue
It has been ten long, miserable days since the White’s son has past away. The old woman hasn’t spoken a word since the strange visitor came stumbling up to there front door and told them the terrible news. Not even at the giant, new cemetery, around 2 miles from their home, when they buried the corpse of there beloved son, did Mrs. White speak. Just a faint whimper, “H-H-Herb,” for their son Herbert. It's like her poor heart couldn’t take it and shattered like a cracked windshield on a cold day. This made Mr.White dreadfully lonely. Not only has he lost his son, but his wife doesn’t give him any attention anymore. He didn't’ want to upset his dear wife, but tonight he could no longer bear it.

Mother,” he said calmly, “How long do you tend on ignoring me?”
She looked down depressingly at the very

Suddenly there was a scratchy knock at the door. Shocked from the time, Mr.White dragged his feet back again towards the door.
“Who is it?’’ he called out.
“MMMM MMMMPH,” was the reply he got back. “Is this some kind of jo-” he cut himself off once he opened the door. For the person behind the door was no joke, it was Herbert!!! “AAAAAAAAHHHH!” the old man yelled as he slammed the door.
The old woman came rushing out of her room yelling, “Father, father what’s wrong?” That's when she lost her footing and came tumbling down the stairs. Mr.White ran to his poor wife and scooped her up like a princess. That's when the scratching started up again.
“Who’s that?” she frightfully asked.
“Someone who shouldn’t be alive,” he responded angrily.
“It’s Herbert isn’t it? Isn’t it?!” Her husband wouldn’t answer her.
“Let me

It was a cold winter day in the town of Budville. The sky was a leaden grey, heavy with snow. The ground was blanketed in a thick layer of frost, sparkling like countless diamonds under the dim light of the morning sun. Maria, a young girl of ten or eleven, trudged through the snow, her breath forming tiny white clouds in front of her face. She wore a thick fur coat and mittens, her scarf wrapped tightly around her neck to protect her from the bitter cold.…

The mother I used to sing church hymns with had long disappeared, replaced by a vicious woman who considered her son as nothing more than a hindrance.…
