The physical description of Beowulf allows the reader to see how significantly of an epic hero is that Beowulf is very strong, loyal, brave, and devoted to his duty. For instance, when Beowulf is fighting Grendel's mother and he's about to die and then he notices a sword, “ But so massive that no ordinary man could lift it it's carved and decorated strength”. 59). Therefore, this describes Beowulf's strength.
His words and actions indicate what was going to happen to him and his opponent. Such as, “ But he raised his sword and struck at the dragon's scaly hide”. ( Ln 670-671 pg 64). That describes when Beowulf struck the dragon for the first time and brought it extreme pain. Moreover, Wiglaf came to help because after that he got weaker and Wiglaf, loyalful warrior, came to his side and defeated the dragon once and for all because if he hadn’t Beowulf would’ve been doomed and the dragon would still be alive terrorising people and stealing treasures.
Beowulf’s thoughts when he was fighting the dragon, he was giving it his all.
But his age was letting him down. He gave his last of his strength. “ And for the first time that famous prince fought with fate against him, with glory denied him, he knew it, but he raised his sword and struck the dragon's scaly hide”. ( ln 668-671 pg 64). He was no longer a match for the dragon and he knew his fate was running out as well as his life.
Wiglaf’s words toward his king, Beowulf, shows that he’s a loyal warrior. Particularly, “And now our lord must lean on younger arms”. ( ln 708-735 pg 65). Beowulf Is older, weaker, and wiser since his latest battle, so Beowulf accepts his help. To illustrate, Wiglaf preaches about how he will not leave his lord to die alone like his other followers fled. Beowulf was always a lone wolf so him accepting help from Wiglaf was the best decision Beowulf made.
Beowulf was a loyal, devoted warrior til the day he died. He always tried his hardest and his hardest was always good enough to defeat the monsters he fought. Then a furious, man eating dragon kills Beowulf, and his death leads to sorrow and depression in Herot, but his death symbolizes that you can’t win them all but don’t lose hope. The people in Herot were heartbroken when their king died, but they eventually recovered from their
loss.
