The poem also depicts Beowulf as having super-human strength that is how he defeats evil.
“That the monsters scorn of men is so great that he needs no weapons and fears none.” Beowulf is speaking to the king, he is very confident in himself he believes that without a doubt he can defeat Grendel. “Then he saw, hanging on the wall a heavy sword, hammered by Giants... But so massive that no ordinary man could lift it…” Beowulf is in the mothers of Grendel’s lair, he is trying to defeat her, but the sword he was given was too small, and was not able to penetrate her thick scales. Beowulf sees this massive sword that was made by giants hanging on the wall that is what he uses to defeat Grendel’s
mother. And not to forget above all the boastful self-confidence Beowulf shows. “… That the Monsters Scorn of men is so great that he needs No weapons and fears none.” Beowulf is speaking to the king, he is very confident in his self he believes that without a doubt he can defeat Grendel. “Then the Geats brave Prince entered Herot covered with glory for the daring battles he had fought; he sought Hrothgar to salute him and showed Grendel’s head.” Beowulf had defeated both Grendel and his mother to show the king, Beowulf chopped off Grendel’s head. Beowulf returns home and becomes king, and rules Geatland for 50 years.
Although Beowulf risks his life to help the ones who need it, to defeat evil. He lived a long and accomplishing live, even became king of the Geats. He fought many battles, defeated both Grendel and his mother, he was praised for that. The downside of this great story is that Beowulf never has kids so his legacy was not able to be passed down. However the last days of his life he was still showing the qualities of a great hero, and never stopped trying.
