Beowulf: Comparing The Book And Movie

Beowulf is about this strong hero who is summoned to defeat the main evil being known as grendel who has been terrorizing these people and their king for many many years. This piece of literature is by far one of the oldest and over the years there has been a lot of information that has been tossed around, forgotten or changed because the storyteller didn’t like it. Now over the many years the story has been passed there are many different ways to interpret what is said. Since Beowulf can be interpreted in many different ways there are some discrete similarities and differences between the movie and the book causing different outcomes to occur. Some interpret beowulf as this hero or as somewhat a greedy man who hungers for power, the reader could see the monsters that attack the hall as a form of a curse, even the overall plotline could be altered to benefit the form of literature being used. In the novel and the movie the story is quite similar. There is a large threat being shown which is grendel, as well as the same characters are being progressed throughout the same way of storytelling. The rolls theses characters play is still the same aswell, Hrothgar is king, beowulf is hero, and grendel alongside grendel’s mother are the villains. In both
Beowulf and Hrothgar are both portrayed completely different and that causes the entire movie or book to be thrown into a different feeling behind everything that happens. Even grendel looks completely different from expected, he kind of looks like this overgrown child in the movie but when his described in the book it almost sounds like an orc or some giant. The curse isn't even mentioned in the book but in the movie it's nearly all they inadvertently discuss. Both the novel and the book are equally good in their own ways they just have a different way of showing what the story is
