Beowulf Narrative Essay
n a cold and windy December seventeenth, tragedy struck. A day the whole kingdom never forgot about. The tragic day the prince went missing and the day a kingdom lost their queen. Prince Aleksander had just celebrated his first and last birthday with the royal family. This day would soon be memorialized not as the prince’s birthday but as the day the kingdom mourned for the lost of a son, a prince, and an heir to the throne.

His mother, Adeline, was the first person that made it to young Aleksander’s nursery when she heard the balcony window shatter. She rushed in and desperately tried to save her son, resulting in a brawl between the abductor and Adeline. Soon
Adeline was about to emerge victorious but when she tried to snatch Aleksander

When the king, Beowulf, was finally able to arrive to the scene, he only found the ashy remains of his beloved wife. Crying in agony, Beowulf swore to enact his revenge on the captor of his son.

Eighteen years later, on Aleksander’s birthday, Bastian, the man that raised
Aleksander, made Aleks work in their shop, as he did every year. Aleks worked all day making food and selling it at the store. Their shop, Bastian’s Blissful Booth, was one of the most popular places to get food and everyone in the kingdom knew this.

“Aleks! It’s high noon. You need to be in the front taking orders and money, not in here in the kitchen! You are just taking up space”, Bastian ordered.

Aleks did not say a word, just nodded and obediently did as Bastian said. He never dared disobey Bastian and he already learned the hard way what would happen if he did.

Everyone in town knew that today was the day to celebrate the birthday of the lost prince. And just like every other year, Aleks watched through the gloomy shop windows at all the other children and common people as they scurried on the streets greeting each other, trading stories or food, and having

American Author Zane Gray once stated “I hate birthdays.” Perhaps he said this because he has had a bad experience with birthdays. Maybe he simply doesn’t like celebrating something as frivolous as a birthday. Personally, I concur with Mr. Gray’s statement, I too, hate birthdays. Even though the vast majority of the population enjoy their birthday and most likely consider it their favorite holiday, birthdays do not appeal to me however because of, my past natal day experiences, the annoyance of the annual overhyped celebrations, and my fear of being disappointed again.…

For some, birthday celebrations are mandatory. But for our family, birthdays are seldom celebrated. The 16th day of March 2011, for other people, is just a typical day. But for me, it was more than what met my eyes and what I have felt during that day. I woke up feeling lively and sound. For a while, I stopped and started counting the days in the calendar. Adrenalines rushed through my system when I remembered correctly. I will never be wrong—today is my birthday. That brimming feeling of excitement suddenly wore off because if I remember correctly, we seldom celebrate birthdays; this day is not an exception.…

Once, seemingly to my mind long ago, for truly it was nearly eleven years ago now, I reminisce of how simplistic everything was surrounding my birthday. There were no hassles of trying to compare schedules with my friends and select a time when every person could be together. There was no bother of having to clean my room and spend hours on the phone negotiating with families of friends or any other of the hassles that surround me now.…

You could smell the party in the air, there were hot dogs and hamburgers cooking on the grill, and there had also been the smell of beer coming off the keg-taps. The feeling of good-times was all around you, as there were at least forty to fifty close friends together. Some I knew better than others, but in all, everybody seemed to be having an awesome time none the less. We all came together to celebrate for someone we all knew and loved, that's all that mattered.…

My birthday is the same day as my parents' anniversary. On every midnight of April 21st, three of us cut the cake together by using one knife. My mouth would become like a balloon as both mom and dead put the cake in my mouth together. All the family members would enjoy the whole night by sitting together, and playing different games. Dad would tell stories and give us knowledge about the historical and current events, and then we gave our opinions about those events. We used to play was "kasoti". In this game, one team had to think about a well-known person and then the other team had to pick that person by asking ten questions (the questions had to answer yes or no). In this manner, his little games would help us gain a lot of knowledge about outstanding people of the world in a friendly ambience. Dad used to take off from his job the next day. All of us (mom, dad, brothers and sisters) would go for the picnic; we used to walk a lot make fun and enjoy the mango ice-cream (compulsory item). Those were always great family outings. That birthday used to be so unique in a sense that we never feel any need to invite people to celebrate it.…
