When a human being is attracted to another, it’s called interpersonal love. When a human is sexually attracted to an animal, it’s called zoophilia or beastiality. This topic is about when a human is attracted to inanimate objects. This is called objectum sexuality or object sexuality.
In object sexuality the emphasis is not in fact on ‘sexuality’ at all as while the individual may be sexually attracted to the object, they also have strong feelings of love and commitment toward it. Generally those experiencing with object sexuality believe the object to hold reciprocal feelings and to love them back, while in some extreme cases they may also find it difficult to understand ‘normal’ relationships between humans. Those who experience the feelings may be referred to as ‘objectophiles’ or ‘OS people’.
Here are some examples of OS people. When other teenagers were dating each other, Erika was dating a tower. She changed her last name to Eiffel as she was married to the Eiffel tower. In 2012, a British citizen Amanda Liberty was linked romantically to the Statue of Liberty. Also, the show “My Strange Addiction” documented an episode about a man who was emotionally and sexually attracted to his car. A later example involved Val Theroux, a 64 year old Canadian woman who flew thousands of miles to the UK every year to see an Oak tree which she had fallen in love with. And there is so much more.
The causes and mechanisms of object sexuality are not currently fully understood, but many existing insights of psychology may be used in order to explain the phenomenon. OS people are said to be suffered from history of abuse and Asperger’s syndrome that damages communication, emotion and the ability to empathize. So these OS people are prone to developing object sexuality.
