What do Alabama, LSU, Florida, Tennessee, and Auburn all have in common? They are all in the SEC and they all have won BCS championship games! Well today I am going to give you a couple reasons why the SEC is the most dominant conference in college football today, as compared to conferences such as the Big 12, Big 10, ACC, etc. First I will go over their top tier recruitment of talented athletes, then I will go over their dominant coaching staff, and then finally one of the most important reasons, the passion of SEC players and fans, and finally I will briefly go over their dominant records since the inception of the BCS in the 1998-1999 season.
According to rivals.com, the SEC has 10 of the top 25 recruiting classes this past season. This is compared to the ACC, Big 10, and PAC 10 who only averaged 4 of the top 25 recruiting classes each. Also, Alabama was able to recruit 6, 5 star recruits and Ole Miss was able to pick up 5 of them which is 11 total 5 star recruits between just two teams. Compare this to all the other conferences in the top 25 only getting a combined total of 10 and the SEC has a combined total of 21. With the Big 10 having only 5 and the Big 12 having 4. With this being said, the success and worth of a coach is generally perceived by his salary which directly reflects the SEC having the most dominant of coaching staffs also. The SEC holds the highest paid coach, which I am sure any of y’all can guess, Nick Saban of Alabama, whom actually holds over a 70% win record. These all are huge factors but none of them are as effective as the passion of the SEC
