Many people, including myself - agree that high school is one of life's craziest and most unforgettable chapters. It is where one would begin to cross the boundary between childhood and adulthood, and where many phases of learning occur, not only in school but in real life as well.
I spent four years in high school, and I can say that each year has its own story to tell, and is special in their own ways. But one year stood out from all of them - the junior (third) year.
It all started in a hot June morning (a typical Philippine school year lasts from June to March) when I entered my assigned class for the first day of school. At first I thought it was nothing really special, just a set of new classmates and a new adviser. Everything was calm, but it did not last long.
I met my first set of friends when we were having Saturday meet-ups to work on our school projects. As I was on my way to the school gate, they approached me and told me that the supposed "Saturday work" was cancelled and they invited me to join them to hang out in one of my classmate's place and hit the band studio later. It was weird because I barely knew them, but I did not even think twice of saying "no". At the back of my mind, I know that they were lying about the cancelled school work, but I had fun throughout the day with them.
And so it began - it was a very busy year for us, we often had Saturday school work, but we always made a point to hang out elsewhere after doing our tasks in the class. Together with my newly-found friends, we enjoyed doing different things - from going to the band studio, playing arcade games (particularly the then-popular DDR), playing Counter-Strike (which I was surprised myself because I never had
