Conflict is something everybody experiences and although it may be difficult to overcome, conflict is an unavoidable part of life. This leads many to ask the same question: what is the best way to respond to conflict? One’s response to conflict is a crucial factor in determining whether or not one will be able to overcome the difficulties they face. The best way to respond to conflict is to maintain a positive attitude, for an optimistic and forward-looking mindset will lessen the difficulty of facing adversity. In the past, many have used a positive attitude to overcome the difficulties they have faced. One quite notable example of this is Anne Frank. While Anne Frank was faced with the life-changing challenge of being forced into hiding during the Nazi invasion of Europe, she maintained an optimistic attitude and did not allow her situation to dictate how she lived life. …show more content…
The answer is quite clear, by maintaining positivity, the effects of conflict are not felt in such severity as they would with a negative outlook on the situation. Negativity narrows one’s thoughts and does not allow all resolutions to be considered (Huffington). Maintaining optimism allows one to be more effective in resolving conflicts. For example, by remaining positive, Anne Frank was able to overcome the difficulty of being forced to move away from her home, “Up now to our bedroom, with its blank walls, was very bare. Thanks to Father- who brought my entire post card and movie-star collection here beforehand- and to a brush and a pot of glue, I was able to plaster the wall with picture. It looks much more cheerful” (Frank 19). While this was not a major conflict Anne faced, she was able to think creatively by blocking out negative thoughts.
