Dysfunction to the bladder is cause by the nervous system. The types of neurogenic bladder are spastic bladder, reflex bladder, and flaccid bladder. It is called neuropathic bladder. Bethanechol is a parasympathetic nerve stimulant that causes contraction of the detrusor urinae muscle in the bladder, which results in urination. It also stimulates gastric motility, increase gastric tone, and restore impaired rhythmic peristalsis. Bethanechol enable the bladder to empty completely and regularly. It helps to prevent infection, control incontinence and preserve kidney function. Bethanechol help to stimulate bladder contractions in patients that retain urine. Neurogenic disorders are the
result of neurologic conditions such as spinal cord or disease. The primary outcome is that therapy is restoration of bladder tone and urination.
