Better Emergency Response
More and More people are utilizing social media for more activities in their daily routines now more than ever. People can order pizza on twitter, watch their news, communicate with all their friends, family and co-workers now on social media and no according to a survey 69 percent believe that emergency services should or do utilize social media to respond for help when calls to 911 go unanswered. One of the simplest reasons is that it reaches more people more quickly. This is especially helpful when warnings from the public need to be issued. The second reason it can send and receive alerts that need to get out quickly. Most individuals have their social media accounts linked to their smart phones and getting more out quickly can help save lives. A third important reason is that it enables emergency agencies to monitor more areas simultaneously. Doing this involves monitoring comments and post from individuals needing assistance. With its massive communication abilities it enables more persons of authority to monitor emergency situations and provides the agency to make adjustments in real time. This brings up another important reason because it also enables responders to communicate better creating a more effective efficient response to a disaster. …show more content…
