“Beware of the Dog” is a short story written by Roald Dahl. This story follows a World War 2 British Air Force Pilot, Peter Williamson, as his plane is badly damaged and he has lost a leg. Peter ejects out of his plane and passes out, then wakes up in a supposedly British hospital. While Peter is there, he hears the very distinct sound of German bombers, flying during broad daylight. The pilot is very suspicious as the nurse and doctor tend to his tarnished leg. As the nurse is out of his room, Peter painstakingly crawls to the wind and sees a French sign, reading “Beware the Dog.” Peter realizes that he’s in German-occupied France, but still stays calm and collected.
