Bhagavad Gita

In the Bhagavad Gita, Arjuna ends up in a serious dilemma that leads up to battle and everything that he believes and stands on. He is about to go to war with his family members and friends when he realizes that what they are about to do is wrong, no matter if the other side believes it or not, it’s just something that he doesn’t feel is right. Arjuna says to Krishna, “What joy is there for us Krishna... Evil will haunt us if we kill them.” At this point Arjuna is ready to back out of war as he feels this isn’t right, especially on those that you love. All relationships and possible friendships wouldn’t stand a chance and would immediately be ruined due to people being slain. This rips families apart and allows for long term animosity to develop
against one another. Arjuna then goes on to mention, “Honor forbids us to kill our cousins, how can we know happiness if we kill our own kinsmen?” Then goes on later to say, “When a family is ruined, the timeless laws of family duty perish… and chaos overwhelms the family.” With all of that being stated, the way I feel Arjuna thinks about their next moment as there is no turning back after war. All family ties will be forever damaged and very unlikely to be restored. From there, it would be hard to trust one another just by seeing how quick family turned on each other and not acting rationally to settle this situation without resorting to violence. Arjuna stands in the middle of losing family, friends and loved ones, potentially dying, and losing self-respect by going through with something he doesn’t believe in by going to war and being praised if he wins, having people looking up to him or running in fear. The other option would result in possibly fixing the family feud, holding on to his self-respect though others may view it as shameful, living without grief and regret of killing the ones he cares for.
