The Brooklyn Bridge, originally known as the East River Bridge, is a bridge in New York City that spans over the East River. It is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. This is the only bridge that connects the borough of Brooklyn to its sister, Manhattan. This bridge, with a huge span of 486.3m, was the longest suspension bridge in the world until 1903. Not only was it the longest, but it was the very first steel-wire suspension bridge in America.…
Elijah and Xavier were always the best of friends. From the day they met at Residential School, they started to bond, and had a connection as strong as two brothers. However, they were eventually split apart, as Xavier had decided to fulfill his role as a bush Indian, and left with his Aunt Niska to live in the wilderness. When years had passed, Xavier got lonely, and the only person he wanted to have by his side was Elijah; thus, their friendship was rekindled. Now, many years later, they still have not left each others side. They consider each other as brothers, and yet, Xavier ends up killing Elijah. In the book Three Day Road, it is clear that Xavier enables Elijah’s actions before and during war that lead to Elijah’s eventual death, causing Xavier to fall ultimately responsible for Elijah’s death.…
Section 1: Manatees belong to the order Sirenia, which also includes the manatee’s relative in the Pacific, the dugong, (Dugongdugon). Sirenians evolved from four-footed land mammals more than 60 million years ago. The presence of tiny pelvic bones in manatees, shaped differently in males and females, is evidence of their terrestrial ancestry. The closest modern relatives of the Sirenia are elephants, aardvarks, and hyraxes, small furry mammals that resemble rodents. These animals are large, fully aquatic, mostly herbivorous marine mammals sometimes known as sea cows. They are varied in color from dull gray to brown or black. They all have stout, tapered bodies ending in a flat, rounded tail used for forward propulsion. The forelimbs are modified into flippers; there are no hind limbs. There are three accepted living species of Trichechidae, representing three of the four living species in the order Sirenia: the Amazonian manatee (Trichechus inunguis), the West Indian manatee (Trichechus manatus), and the West African manatee (Trichechus senegalensis.…
The term “road rage” was coined in the USA in the 1980s by a police officer after he pulled over a motorist who shot another driver who cut him off (Sunrise Digest, 1988). Road rage is currently defined as intentionally participating in risky driving behaviors that are known to increase the likelihood of a crash. Previous definitions of road rage did not include intent. This definition change shows that road rage is something that one chooses to do instead of unconsciously doing it. Two forms of road rage have been identified: mild and severe. Mild forms of road rage include obscene gestures and name calling. Severe forms of road rage include threats, physical confrontation, and murder. Certain road conditions, like construction or a detour,…
Hey, guys! It's Sydney here, and I have officially made it further in the 24 Day Challenge than the last time I attempted it! YAY!!!! Yesterday was a struggle because I was really starting to crave fast food. There is no doubt in my mind that I am probably addicted to fast food because I would eat it every single day, and sometimes more than once a day. I am very excited to continue with this challenge because I know once it is over all of the bad things will have been cleaned out of my system, and I hope to not crave fast food anymore. If I can do this, so can anyone else. No matter your age, weight, or busy schedule, I promise you can do it! I am a morbidly obese woman addicted to junk food, but I have survived 3 days (we are now on the 4th)…

Amy Westervelt’s article “Bike-Sharing Grows Up: New Revenue Models Turn a Nice Idea into Good Business” explains… that bikes in other countries are very important and the main type of transportation. When the program first started it was going good until people began to take advantage of the program so it failed. After a national event in 2008, it led to an official program in 2010. With the help of advertising it began to help generate profits. In India they started a pilot which was successful and it began to spread worldwide. CityRyde began having problems with revenue and with their software system they were able to fix the problem. In Denver they learned that people bike systems casually and people didn’t use it as much as they expected…
Some Sumer activities that I like to do or achieve for the school break are having fun with my friends and family and play. On really hot days we go down to the lake and play in the water or go fishing. I also like to play with my dog and go for walks with her if I'm not dragging her all the way there and back. Sometimes I do work with my dad most of the times it involves a lot of elbow grease. I love to do fun activities with my mom that does relate a little work, at the end she gets us a treat. On the days I'm not doing anything I go out with friends or they come to my house, and if I'm good we go to get air, other wise, we just watch movies and relax. On other days when we are in the garden I like to swim, maybe even play with the sprinklers and bother my brothers.…
The staff ride was literally an educational tool for me. Unlike the classroom instruction, the staff ride put me on a actual piece of terrain, were I was able to have a visual of the past operational situation; as an effective stimuli. I was not very familiar with the Battle of Horseshoe Bend and its consequences prior to the trip, therefore visiting the military national park gave me the opportunity to reflect on the past. The trip met its purpose of providing me with professional development as a U.S. Army leader. In addition, the staff ride to Horseshoe Bend kindled my interest in the heritage of the U.S. Army and exposed me to the “face of battle.” I learned that the Battle of Horseshoe Bend was fought during the war of 1812 in central…
In making a video on bicycle safety I would start out the video with an example. I would show a reenacted scene of a bicyclist in a dangerous situation, and just what can happen. The example I would use would be one of a bicyclist running a red light. While I am driving I see this happen almost every day, especially in residential neighborhoods. The bicyclist looks around quickly and proceeds through the crosswalk even if the light is red. If we could reenact a similar situation to this I believe it would be effective. I see not only the danger of a direct hit coming from a car that has a green light, but also that of a car turning right. For instance, a car may be behind the bicyclist turning right as soon as the biker decides to dash through the red light resulting in a collision. In a blindsided collision like that the biker could be seriously injured as the car would be accelerating into him. I believe by showing this kind of example to start our video it would not only capture the attention of bicyclists, but that of drivers as well.…
Fellow Melburnians like to have a bit of culture and music on their daily walk through the city environment, But there comes to a point where enough is enough; a line must be drawn. Buskers should have to audition for a place in busking and have reasonable restrictions placed upon them. Busker’s music can be very loud and a percentage of the public find it distracting as all they are trying to do is make their way to or from a destination. Many Melbournians do not enjoy buskers' music and regard it as an unpleasant distraction. “Bad busking” is also part of the reason why some businesses have become abandoned or out of business because of the noise they produce drives customers away from the retail shops. Buskers should definitely have to audition for a place to busk.…
The author worries about his image when biking in Uganda. He is a modern well-equipped and wealthy mzungu riding a luxurious mountain bike for pleasure and fitness, while around him poor people of Uganda are busy working for life and using their bikes for ferrying life’s staples. Although struggling with that contrast, he continues his practice of “luxurious” biking, and tries to present himself as friendly and respectful to surrounding Ugandans.…
