Bilbo Baggins In 'The Hobbit' By J. R.
The “Hobbit” was written by J.R.R Tolkien. The Hobbit is a fantasy novel, and children’s book. This book takes place in fictional Middle earth. It all starts with a humble hobbit who has an unexpected tea party with many dwarves and a wizard. I’m sure he was overwhelmed with it at first, but eventually he learned to get out of his comfort zone. Although the dwarves don’t realize it at first, they can learn a lot from the hobbit, and likewise for the hobbit. There are three main characters. One of them I‘ve already briefly described, Bilbo Baggins, the humble hobbit. Bilbo is the opposite of adventurous. He is a very cautious, well respected Hobbit, and is well respected in his community. He tried to get out of being the dwarves’ burglar. …show more content…

They both wore a blue hood carried a bag of tools and a spade, and grew a yellow beard.; Dori wore a purple hood; Nori wore a purple hood, too; Ori wore a grey hood; Oin was the brother of Gloin. He wore a brown hood. He and Gloin were given the job of starting the campfires; Gloin wore a brown hood, like his brother.; Bifur, who was a cousin to Bofur and Bombur, wore a yellow hood, and played the clarinet.; Bofur, like his cousin, wore a yellow hood and played the clarinet; and Bombur, known for how fat he was and his sympathy of Bilbo’s unfortunate situations, wore a pale green hood. The book starts in Bilbo’s Hobbit hole in the small village of Hobbiton, and takes us through wild forests and goblin infested caves to the dragon inhabited Mountain of Erebor. Many struggles were faced along the way, but they kept on going. Approaching dusk, they began to hear wolves. They were actually wargs, and there was to be a meeting with the goblins. Gandalf decided that, they should climb up in the trees before they were eaten by the wargs. When the wargs and goblins came back, the goblins set fire to the trees. If it had not been for the eagles, they would’ve been burnt alive. The eagles picked up the goblins one by one, and Gandalf set the wargs on fire. Then, the eagles gave them a ride in the direction they had been going. Taking a break, the stopped at Blank’s house, and stayed for a few nights. Once they were fully rested, they kept on going. When they left, he gave them each ponies, and Gandalf a horse. Then, when they reached the gates of Mirkwood, Gandalf, along with the ponies, had to turn around. He had some other things to do, wizard council. Though, they were told not to go off the trail, they soon went off looking for food. This got them in trouble with the giant spider’s. Luckily, Bilbo, with the ring on, woke up in time to save them from the spiders. In doing this , Bilbo started a battle between them and all the spiders. Somehow, they got out of it, but then found themselves prisoners of the Elvenking. Using the power of the ring, Bilbo sneaked around the castle. One day, he had a plan to get them out of there. Using the river barrel delivery system, they each got into a barrel. Then they waited for the guard to push them off. It

The Hobbit, by J.R.R Tolkien is a fantasy book set in the medieval ages. Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit, embarks on an epic journey with Gandalf and his “party” to recover lost treasure in the lonely mountain guarded by a dragon named Smaug. After making their way past trolls, spiders and Gollum, they finally get to Smaug, then manage to steal the treasure (with they divide up). The two main ideas I found in this book were Bilbo’s heroism and the storyteller (narrator).I think that this book explores and shows the theme good vs evil.…

The deadliest war in American history may have saved the Union but it left both the North and South in shambles. Towns were charred to ashes, railroads were twisted to coils, and a Southern economy was on the verge of collapse. On top of it all a whole group of people were given freedom and placed into a society alien to them. Perhaps the biggest battle America had to fight came after the Civil War: reconstruction. Many in the US government believed they had the best plan to rebuild the country.…

“With a Shriek that deafened men, felled trees and split stone, Smaug shot spouting into the air, turned and crashed down on high ruin”(Tolkien 224).This is the last we hear of Smaug, before his death in The Hobbit. Smaug is the last major problem between the company and the treasure, and needs to be stopped in order for the treasure to go back to Thorin’s family. Bard a member of Laketown, takes the challenge trying to protect his town, and not caring or knowing what this could do for someone else, for example the dwarves. This would eventually lead to war over greed for the gold by Thorin. Something common in today's society is greed, greed for money, materialistic things, and other things. It’s become common, and is heard on the news often of people that could not keep it from happening, it leads to fights and other things, but the unlikely does happen sometimes and a accomplishment could come out of it. In the Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, Great accomplishments are shown by Bilbo, but not without the help of others. \…

The Hobbit shares many of it's themes and several of its key qualities in characters with those established in previous stories or myths, starting with Bilbo Baggins. The aristocratic line present in the halfling’s family tree earns him the comfort and joy of the largest home with the most luxury in Bag End. Bilbo happens to be a Hobbit, which could be compared that of the most common physical description of Brownies with their small stature, brown curly hair, and docile nature. The childlike build of Hobbits gives an air of youth despite that the person may be middle aged, they are also a sheltered group that remains in their home’s reach and care not of adventures as noted by Bilbo;”I should think so- in these parts! We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures. Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late to dinner, I can’t see what anybody sees in them.” (Tolkien, page 6) However, later in the text Bilbo contradicts this statement and joins the party…
