The person versus person conflict is mainly between the dwarves and the dragon Smaug. Smaug destroyed their home and stole their treasure and the dwarves want to defeat Smaug and reclaim their home. On their way journey to the Mountain, the group encountered dark creatures including: trolls, rock giants, goblins, Gollum, wargs and giant spiders. Towards the end of the novel there is a big conflict called the Battle of the Five Armies and it involves the Wood-elves, goblins, the Lake-men, and the dwarves. Bilbo Baggins internal conflict in the book is largely due to his mixed family heritage. Bilbo's dad was a Baggins; a family that is well known their laziness and cautious nature. His mom was a Took; a family that is known for being adventurous and being bad. During the entire book Bilbo is torn between his Baggins and Took blood. He can’t decide whether to stay on the Baggins side or the Took side. The conflict eventually changes Bilbo's outlook on life, and by the end of the book he is no longer lazy and cowardly. Everyone thinks of him as strong and heroic for all that he has been through and still coming out victorious. Bilbo is a true hero that overcomes everything thrown at him. The hobbits are so unfamiliar with other lands that they can only imagine one hill and one body of water. They do not even use proper names to distinguish between different hills and waters. As Bilbo and the dwarves set out on their adventure, they traveled east. They left behind the hobbit country. The border between good lands and bad lands is Rivendell, the location of the "Last Homely House" protected by the great lord Elrond. Rivendell is a valley filled with elves that sing and laugh all the time. The valley of Rivendell is always filled with happiness, but it is still not far from the Misty Mountains. And Bilbo has to leave it eventually. Once Bilbo comes out the other side of the Misty Mountains he takes shelter with Beorn, the wild man in a large wooden house near a rock called the Carrock. Beorn's place is safe, but it is still not what Bilbo is used to. Next up is Mirkwood. Mirkwood is a dark forest filled with Wood-elves, eerie enchantments, and giant spiders. Bilbo wants to go around it, but the places around it are filled with even more dangerous stuff, so Mirkwood is the best option for the group. They get through eventually after overcoming a few obstacles. The Lonely Mountain is the final quest for the group. It is the biggest mountain and the most dangerous.
