Tolkien's, The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins was no exception to this. He was very content living in the shire, but when Gandalf arrived at his house along with 13 dwarves he finds himself doing something he thought he would never do, going on an adventure. Throughout this entire journey, Bilbo becomes more and more courageous and even went so far as to meet with leaders of an opposing army and say “This is the Arkenstone of Thrain… I give it to you. It will aid you in your bargaining. ”(271) This is showing that despite him possibly risking capture or death, he still has enough courage to help end a needless war between his group’s army and the elven-human’s army.…

In J.R.R Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit’, the protagonist Bilbo Baggins embarks on a journey of discovery through the world outside his insular home that leads to a renewed perception of himself and others at the conclusion of the story. Much like in ‘Mending Wall’, Baggins is a member of an insular community, where traditions are strongly held, “We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures”. This ongoing thought process is similar to the opposing neighbour, leading to Bilbo’s rejection of the world outside his home of the Shire. Similarly to ‘Stopping by Woods…’ Bilbo faces a chance to leave, “As they sang the Hobbit fell in love……

Everyone is different when they start practicing something new, something that is out of their comfort zone. Normally people do not perform anything that involves them leaving their bubble; they just like to keep it simple. People do things that they like and what they are used to, not unexpected or indifferent things. One can pretty much anticipate what these people do because they do the same thing every day, there is no change in their life and they either do not like change or they do not like doing things that put them in a difficult position. For instance, not everyone is the same, some people are so tight in their comfort zone they are too scared to go forth and explore the rest of the world, Other people leave on an adventure then come back a totally changed person. I will be talking about how Bilbo was a gentle creature that didn’t like leaving his comfy bed and his easy lifestyle. To know how…
