Bill Clinton: How Will He Be Remembered
How Will He be Remembered?

People will always remember Bill Clinton, for what reason, however, might be different. Some might remember him as a wonderful president who helped our country pull through the millennium unscathed. He protected our environment, promoted education, strengthened our economy, dropped the crime rate, dropped our nation's poverty levels and had some victories with international policies. At the same time we have health care that is falling apart, some problems with the military and a scandalous affair. Considering this one has to wonder what his legacy will be. A respected leader who learned as he went and made many valuable reforms? Or a president who didn't hold to his promises, and lied to the country? President Clinton has done many things during his presidency. Some were good some were bad. He made some mistakes and bad choices, but in the whole, he helped our country excel and flourish.
One of the things Clinton is most famous for, but not the proudest of, is his affairs. The issue of Clinton having an affair with Monica Lewinsky is purely personal. It should have been discussed within his family and in his family alone. Many people seem to forget that Presidents before him have done the exact same thing. John F Kennedy is probably the best known with his affairs. This doesn't diminish the fact that Clinton took it one step farther and lied about the affairs. Lying to the nation wasn't a smart move. Does anyone know what John F Kennedy would have said, if asked about his affairs? How do we know that he wouldn't lie? When Clinton was sworn in he said, "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." No where in the oath does it say, "I will not lie." By doing so he hasn't broken his promises, he just let the country down. Right before President Bill Clinton left office

During Gowdy’s question of Jim, it is clear that Clinton has not been in the ballpark of authenticity. Any reasonable person in Clinton’s position should have known a private email is no place to send or receive classified information . Therefore, it can be deduced that Hilary Clinton is no average person and standard laws and regulations do not apply to her. If anyone else with a lower status was caught being “extremely careless” with said classified information, they would be in a huge heap of trouble but not her. Several of Jim’s statements directly contrasts to Clinton’s claims. One claim was that all work-related emails will return to the state department, but Jim states bluntly, “No, we found work-related emails, thousands that were not returned”. Therefore, there is no uncertainty as to whether or not Clinton was dishonest, she was, and Gowdy’s fear of a “double track justice system” is a distressing…

We live in times where morality is an aesthetic priority, even though it may not be a practical priority for many of us. We spend a great deal of time rationalizing our decisions, acting as though there is some sort of black-and-white dichotomy of good and evil that has somehow become anachronistic, then forging ahead with our own choices in some sort of declaration of independence from this dichotomy. Just one example of this took place during the presidency of Bill Clinton. It became clear that President Clinton had had an affair with one of his interns, Monica Lewinsky, and then it also became clear that he lied about that affair while under oath. There were some who thought that this perjury should disqualify him from serving as President,…

Since the establishment of our Nation in 1776, we have had 44 Presidents of the United States of America. Of these 44 leaders, the most successful in my opinion was Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States. Bill Clinton served our country for two terms from January 20, 1993 to January 20, 2001. During his administration the United States enjoyed more peace and economic well being than at any other time in its history. Bill Clinton’s accomplishments as President include the creation of millions of new jobs, the lowest unemployment rate in 30 years, the lowest crime rate in 26 years, the passing of the Brady Bill, going from a record budget…

In 2004, Wilentz states, an informal survey of 415 historians found that 81% considered Bush a failure (1). Although historians tend to be more liberal than the majority another survey concludes that conservatives, as well, show unanimity about the best and worst presidents (Wilentz 1). In the Rolling Stone article, not only does Wilentz share his views on the subject but breaks it down into four categories: the credibility gap, Bush at home, Bush at war, and presidential misconduct. I believe I will do the same.…

When you come across people that have committed horrible crimes or made many bad mistakes in life, you normally don’t give a second thought to what you think about them. They did something horrible and really should be punished for it. This is probably the majority of how most would think. What if that person who did such an unforgiveable thing, was also said to be one of the greatest presidents this country has ever had? Should a person’s positive achievements for the whole of society cancel out the atrocities of their personal life?…

Being a President under investigation for a deceptive crime such as adultery, he came off as defensive in his first speech concerning the situation, “I Misled the People.” He strategically placed words to shift the blame elsewhere in self-defense. He stated “...that was not appropriate,” when referring to his relationship with Ms. Lewinsky (I Misled the People 1). Clinton managed to take away the weight of the word inappropriate by shifting it to not appropriate. The word appropriate has a positive connotation to it in that it’s something people strive for and something people need to stand by to get along in society. The word not is a common adverb that doesn’t hold much weight, it clarifies what the subject did. Therefore, simply saying not appropriate instead of inappropriate takes away a piece of the blame. Later in his speech, The President asked the nation to “turn away from the spectacle of the past seven months” (1). By definition, a spectacle is a visually striking performance or show. Clinton could have just as easily referred to it as a situation and taken responsibility for his actions. In choosing the word spectacle he insinuated that the audience is at fault for using him as a form of entertainment. Shortly after, Clinton ended his speech by telling the American people to stop “prying into private lives” (1). As a form of defense he has once again pinned the responsibility on the audience. Prying has a threatening feel associated with it; by using it he is…

On November 13, 1993, Bill Clinton argues how Martin Luther King fought for the African-American community’s rights, but they are using it in the wrong way. Bill Clinton wanted all of the crime that was being committed to stop in the community of Memphis. Martin Luther King fought for their freedom, but not for the freedom to commit crime. Bill Clinton was trying to persuade the African-Americans to try and change the community for better, so the government’s changes can work for both the government and the community. For example, Bill Clinton implies, “We’re doing our best, but I do not believe we can repair the basic fabric of society until people who are willing to work have work.” He was showing how indignant…

Franklin Delano Roosevelt is a great example to use for this question. He is almost universally accepted as one of, if not the greatest president in American history. Yet, the way he conducted his personal life quite the opposite. He was married to his cousin and then cheated on her with his secretary. Both of these things are considered unacceptable, unforgivable in our society although it seems to me that they are personal choices that should only concern the people in the marriage. In comparison, his many great triumphs and achievements for the betterment of society should outweigh the way he chose to carry on in his marriage. Considering this, I think his “crimes” should not be held up against him by society, and should be forgiven.…
