In conclusion, black history has always been important, but never regarded as such. The education system needs to begin teaching black history the same time it begins to teach white. Although, oppression and triumph are a part of our history, black history does not begin in America. In Keisha Bentley-Edwards article, Black History Month: Change how we teach Black History, she acknowledges that black children need to know much more about who they are. “When the telling or teaching of black history begins with slavery, it ignores their humanity now, just as their humanity was denied in the past.” (Bentley-Edwards 3) Black children face enough adversity in the real world, so why not alleviate the burden by teaching them that their history does…
As you probably know, February marks the start of Black History Month; a month designated to celebrate the amazing accomplishments of African-American men and women. Dr. James E. The case of Bill Cosby, an actor of color was accused of raping 41 women’s, was investigated long and pointed, for being a man of color because always they are also accused of being bad people who get into trouble, because other players who have had such trouble with the law are not investigate. Someone that is accused by the way they drees or being different color or race its racism, because not all who wear ties are good people are often those who steal more and hurt many more than 41 people. Although, not what made Bill Cosby does not justify all the damage, his race was always supporting him.…
Bill Cosby was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is one of four sons born to Anna Pearl and William Henry Cosby, Sr. As a student, he described himself as a class clown. At Fitz Simmons Junior High, Cosby began acting in plays as well as continuing his devotion to playing sports. He went on to Central High School, an academically challenging magnet school, but his full schedule of playing football, basketball, baseball, and running track made it hard for him. In addition, Cosby was working before and after school, selling produce, shining shoes, and stocking shelves at a supermarket to help out the family. He transferred to Germantown High School, but he failed the tenth grade. He then left school and got a job as an apprentice at a shoe repair shop, which he liked, but could not see himself doing the rest of his life. Shortly he joined the Navy, serving the Marine Corps. While in the navy Bill Cosby then realized how important education was and eventually finish up his equivalency diploma.…

My name is Alejandro Cordero and in my English class we have read your “Pound Cake” speech. I believe that your speech is great but can be a bit too judgmental at times. I believe you gave people the truth and hat is quite great because most people don’t tell the truth or they even sugar coat it. I also feel that you can generalize a group of people; I know that you mean well but some people don’t understand the generalizations you put forward. I do believe that you speech did well but making assumptions about a particular set of people can be very stereotypical. Furthermore the fact that you said the “Pound Cake” speech helps out greatly because many people need to know the truth and since you are a celebrity this can be heard much more than an average person. Over all the “Pound Cake” speech has its pros and cons.…
As an African-American young woman who attends a historically black university, it is extremely imperative to show my gratitude and respect for Black History Month. This morning in my English 1102 course, I learned Carter G. Woodson was the creator of Black History Month. Black History Month was previously called Negro History Week; February was selected, due to the efforts of Frederick Douglass fighting…
Bill Cosby’s address at the NAACP on the 50th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of education was definitely a shock to the black community, as well as the nation. Bill Cosby was a comedian, and a figure that was looked up to in the black community, however this speech ruined his career and reputation. Bill Cosby’s speech split up the black community into two. One side strong believed in what Bill Cosby said and agrees with him, while the other side disagrees with him and despises him. This speech impacted the black community very much, and even ruined his reputation, however I believe that he said was true. Although, he expressed it in a cruel way that left you cringing in your seat, it is very much true and action should be taken.…
I think that The Cosby Show had a very practical portrayal of how a family should operate. Although it lacked a direct Christian perspective, it was still a clean, positive influence on our society. It was humorous without finding is necessary to be vulgar or obscene like so many shows on television today. In addition to its clean proper humor, I’d say it was a step forward for African Americans in that it was the depiction of college educated upper class African American parents, raising their children to ultimately attend college as well. Unlike many previously aired African American programs that painted a picture of these families being from the ghetto or always struggling to get ahead, this show was an example of how hard work and living by the expectations of society, that anyone could be successful despite their obstacles.…
