Coming from a wealthy background, Bill Gates went to private school where a portion of the institution's funding went to a new computer terminal. However, Gates did not “learn programming by the laborious computer-card system, like virtually everyone else was doing in the 1960s [,and instead] he got to do real-time programming as an eighth grader” (Gladwell 51). The upper hand that Gates had with this privilege, eventually gave him the chance to work at Information Sciences Inc, ISI. There he spent “1,575 hours of computer time on the ISI mainframe, which averages[d] out to eight hours a day, seven days a week” (Gladwell 52). This ample amount of time to practice and perfect his craft gave him the extra boost to become exceptional at programming leading to the creation of Microsoft.…

“Bill Gates, in full William Henry Gates III (born October 28, 1955, Seattle, Washington, U.S.), is an American computer programmer and entrepreneur who co-founded Microsoft Corporation, the world’s largest personal-computer software company. Gates wrote his first software program at the age of 13. In high school he helped form a group of programmers who computerized their school’s payroll system and founded Traf-O-Data, a company that sold traffic-counting systems to local governments. In 1975 Gates, then a sophomore at Harvard University, joined his hometown friend Paul G. Allen to develop software for the first microcomputers. They began by adapting BASIC, a popular programming language used on large computers, for use on microcomputers. With the success of this project, Gates left Harvard during his junior year and, with Allen, formed…

Using new and unorthodox strategies to run his company like no other, Gates’s brilliant business approach resulted in even more success. In an effort to fully comprehend just how large Microsoft had become the periodical Microsoft After Gates. (And Bill After Microsoft.) states, “start-ups would abandon business plans if they felt that Microsoft was thinking of competing in their space.” Possessing an unholy amount of power like this speaks volumes in the colossal impact any proposal could have on the global market. As aforementioned, Gates reigned supreme, he was the captain of this tech ship that paved the way for innovation in both a daily driven work computer and the groundbreaking software included. “By late 1996, over 90 percent of all PCs had a Microsoft operating system - usually a form of windows - and most had Microsoft applications.” (“Bill Gates.”) Such success was unparalleled to the numbers of computing companies prior. Bypassing any and all opportunities to halt progress in an effort to make a quick profit is hardly one of the many practices he enacted. This same document says that “Gates’s competitive drive and fierce desire to win has made him a powerful force in business, but has also consumed much of his personal life.” (“Bill Gates.”) Hard work and large efforts obviously come at a toll except in the case of Gates, his endeavours…

From a functionalist perspective Bill Gates served as a purpose in life developing Microsoft to help out people with their businesses and person life. A functionalist would believe that society would depend on Microsoft and that is why it would have needed to be created. I believe highly that Bill Gates was mostly a functionalist. From a conflict perspective Bill Gates would have looked at the pros and cons of his software. In this situation the pros outweighed the cons and he developed Microsoft, which is one of the most successful software’s ever created. He also would have thought how if he created this software what he would have gained from the software such as wealth. The conflict perspective is why he went from a middle-class citizen to the top of the stratification system. From a symbolic interactionist perspective would have had to of thought of the values and important of the software to the society. Bill Gates also probably though of the way society was ran at the time without computers and thought that the Microsoft program would help society out by organizing life such as businesses and personal life by letting them do many possible things with this software. Each theory has its own social stratification. A functionalist theory is everyone having his or her place of purpose in society. The conflict theory is the have or have-nots of the situation and the interactionist theory focuses on the values of society. All theories can support a concept but are all different stratifications of society. A person moving from wealth from a functionalist perspective would identify their purpose in society and make it clear to themselves how its going to be okay to live in the society as a lower-class person. From a conflict perspective a person would have to see all the good things that they possibly can if they are going to be a lower-class person of society. They would also need to come up with the bad things that may happen to them…

The following pages consist of information about Leadership; I will have to admit I knew nothing about leadership and the many perspectives and ideas about Leadership and how to be an effective leader. I selected a Leader to study who is known as an effective leader and has made a difference in the world. Our world would not be the same if he had not made those choices to change his world that he lived in. I knew very little about the man that is known for his “radiant smile” and desired to know more about what caused him to be known throughout the world. I had only heard that he spent years in prison and became the first Democratic President in his country. Throughout these pages you will read the analysis of my chosen Leader’s style of effective leadership through six perspectives: trait, behavioral, situational, and constitutive which includes two theories of transactional and transformational leadership, and global leadership. I have also included a comparison of my leadership style with this “Great Man” in each of the six perspectives. Before comparing myself, I thought, I could never stand in the same room with this man, and now I am comparing myself to him. To my amazement, there is a significant learning experience that one can gain in comparing yourself with someone great like this man. I found out who I am, who I want to become and what improvements need to be made to become an effective leader, no matter how big or small our leadership role is, in this world, in our sphere of influence, “We are all Leaders”. I have concluded this paper with a personal leadership profile and a plan of leadership development that I will continue until I have become an effective Leader and have made a difference in my world, in my sphere of influence, in…
