Billie Joe Armstrong's Song 'Boulevard Of Broken Dreams'
In the song “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” by Green Day the message of the song is that the artist is going through tough times and he wants somebody to understand him about what is happening. The lead singer of the the band, Billie Joe Armstrong was suicidal and that’s probably why he wrote this song. In the lyrics, “sometimes I wish someone out there will find me” (line 15) means that he wants somebody out there to find him and understand him. “To know I’m still alive and I walk alone” (26) because he was suicidal, he is very surprised that he is alive. “My shadow’s the only one that walks beside me” (13) nobody will walk beside him, he thinks no one cares enough about him.

The chapter "Another Gun, Another Unlocked Door" is a chapter from Estelle Blackburn's expository text Broken Lives. This chapter focuses on one night of Eric Edgar Cooke's murderous sprees where he steals a rifle and shoots a baby sitter, once again leaving the city of Perth in the hands of fear and danger. The purpose of this chapter is to fight for Cooke's guilt. It shows that he had no fear of being caught and was a devious man when it came to him stealing, killing and the plans he came up with. Through particular aspects of its construction including point of view, structure, language, personality presentation and tone, our response to the ideas conveyed are able to be shaped and moulded to the ideas that are presented…

Though there are many differences between the song and the poem, the theme and SOAPSTone elements are similar in a lot of ways. In the song, Tyler is explaining his experience with depression. By him saying “he lost his car radio” , he’s talking about the music that helps him through the rough times. He has lost his outlet and now is left alone with his thoughts. Similarly, the poem is about a lonely guy who is also experiencing depression. He compares it to being “acquainted with the night.” He’s saying that he’s lonely and he’s isolating himself because of the depression. The subject of the song deals with depression mostly because Tyler’s mind is going crazy with bad thoughts. The car radio is stolen and he’s in silence, which silence can bring about sadness and overthinking. In the same way, the poem’s subject is about the same topics, depression, loneliness and isolation. The narrator has never found any comfort in his depression. He is unwilling to express his feelings because he feels as if no one…

Mark Bradford was the artist that I took a look at. His creativity was wonderful abstract, catching my eye piece after piece. The particular artwork that I looked at was his “When We Ride” created in 2006. The media is a mix, which was created into a collage on canvas. The canvas was at its large of 46 3/8 x 62 ¼ inches. This piece of artwork is located in the city of art itself; Los Angeles, California. I believe this canvas collage tells an untold story through contrast and rhythm, light and color, and texture.…

In the song “Sad Song” by Scotty Sire it talks about how sad he is and gives us the listeners many examples/reasons to be sad. Some that we can all relate to. In this song it talks a lot how he seems to be the saddest person of all, when really it’s just little things that seem to drive him nuts. In the end he does realize though that it is not the end of the world and that that’s just how life is, and that if he can move on so can you.…

From having unfulfilled desires to abandoning loved ones, Tennessee Williams encompasses both aspects in his most successful piece of literature that will be examined for generations to come. The struggles of Laura are displayed perfectly by Tom’s memory in respect to her shyness and incapability of forming into society because of a disability yet this play is much more than just finding likely suitors. In The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, the characters Tom and his father are compared with each other in a fight against destiny. Both characters are faced with the struggles of a transitioning South being revolutionized into an industrial movement sweeping the world. Confronted by the same struggles of a typical Southern…

“Sonny’s Blues” is an emotional story written by an amazing author, James Baldwin, who has come to be one of my favorite writers. This particular piece talks about the troubles of African American freeing themselves from the mental bondages of their surroundings, the ghetto. The title is significant, and helped me to understand the underlining meaning of the story. The title can be divided into two main reasons, the first, “Sonny’s Blues, meaning the music he plays. Second is the reference to his life, his feelings, his style, and most importantly his way of life.…

With music we can express the feelings that are hard to express with everyday language. An example of this is Bessie Smith’s song, “Thinking Blues.” (McClary). In the song she is singing about how much she misses and wants her man to take her back, how she will do just about anything to take her back. However at first sight of the lyrics, I thought the meaning of the song was completely different. I thought it was about how she does not want to be deprived of singing blues just because she is a woman, and it was not popular for a woman to sing blues during that time. It can also just be a simple general love song without much meaning to someone else. Therefore, although music is very similar to language, it proves that it is not universal.…

“Poetry is the art of rhythmical composition, written or spoken,” according to the staff of Dictionay.com (1). Another individual might argue that poetry, is indeed the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings (Wordsworth 1). One demands simple things of a poem; a poem must have a meaning, a logical message to society, an intellectual impact or an emotional impact, and lastly, some sort of rhyme scheme. While it is easy to say that the typical place for a poem, to be heard or seen, is in an English classroom setting read out loud by a teacher; poems are actually naturally found anywhere weather realized or not. A very common place where poetry is found, but often overlooked, is in music. There is no doubt that poetry is found in music and music is poetry. It is unquestionable that the song “Imagine” by John Lennon is a form of poetry. It has meaning, a logical message to society, an emotional and intellectual impact, and a literary device, which subjectively, is poetry.…
