The medical model involves, “identifying signs and symptoms; diagnosing a disease; and then prescribing treatment with the aim of easing symptoms or even curing the disease” (Davidson et al. 2016), just as would be done with a physical illness. Psychiatry is seen as a brand of medicine. Mental health problems are considered biochemical problems. Unfortunately, mental health issues have few objective tests to give an accurate diagnosis. Most tests are subjective, hopefully, this will change as doctors and researchers develop techniques to scan the brain for disorders.
