Extra Credit Video Summary: Evolution
The theory of evolution and the ideas and implications of it have been a mystery to us for longer than we know. Yet today, we are armed with new tools, better tools – tools that can now allow us to trace back our history and our ancestry thousands of generations back. Today, with the use of DNA, we are able to analyze the blood of current people and compare it to that found in the remains of ancient peoples. And using our knowledge of DNA and gene inheritance, we can determine and deduce ancient ancestral links and geographical connections. And essentially this is what this video was about.
The main character of the movie was trying to track down and determine how the earth was populated. He began his journey in Africa, where he visited the “Bianca n Buti” peoples. After testing their blood, he saw that their blood could be traced back 50,000 years back. He found that the ancient peoples had at one point lived in Africa. Yet a band of people decided to leave Africa, and it is believed that it was this band of people that eventually populated the rest of the known world. In order to further learn of the magnificent journey of these people, the filmmakers decided to visit the ancient tribe of the Sun-Bushmen, one of the last remaining unchanged links of humankind’s history; it is from them that stemmed every creed and race known to man today. Their branch was the first to split off the ancient travelers, and so the filmmakers wanted to observe their way of life in order to determine how it was that the group of ancient people was able to survive their long and difficult journey. He found that the Bushmen used clicks to communicate with each other – a language that was both new and wondrous 50,000 years ago. It clearly gave the band of travelers an advantage against the predators of the world. Another advantage was their state of the art weaponry, which
