Following Michael Jordans footsteps again, Rose became the first NBA all-star on the Bulls since Jordan was named an all-star in 1998. Rose’s third season could be considered his most successful, one of his best games was on January 17 2011. I remember sitting upstairs at my house, wearing my cobalt blue Adidas DRose 2.5s, watching the Bulls play the Grizzlies. The whole game Derrick seemed to be controlling the court, he flew up and down the light colored hardwood finding many creative ways to put the little orange ball in the little orange hoop. Derrick finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists, recording his first triple double. I was amazed by his performance and began to watch as many Bull’s games as I could, just to see him play. After more great performances Rose lead his Bulls team to a 62-20 record and Derrick won the NBA’s most valuable player award. At age 22 Derrick Rose was the youngest person to ever be named the MVP of the league, breaking a 47 year old record. When he won the MVP he inspired me by the way he overcame a hard situation to become one of the greatest athletes in the NBA and he also made me believe that if I worked hard like he did I could accomplish my…

to enter the NBA draft. These seventeen and eighteen year olds decide to skip college and instead, they choose to take a big risk and enter the NBA, hoping to become stars and earn millions of dollars. In many cases, these youngsters’ careers are failures because sometimes they don’t turn out as talented as they were hyped up to be. They end up spending only a few seasons in the NBA because they are not good enough to compete at that level. Many of them have to move on to doing other things, such as playing basketball overseas, doing everyday jobs, or going back to college to earn a degree. Basketball players who enter the NBA early are not ready for the NBA. Early entry into the NBA by high school and college basketball players have had a negative affect on the college basketball program, the NBA, and the players themselves. Each year the number of early entries in the NBA rises more and more. In 1997, forty-seven basketball players entered the NBA draft early, and the number has risen since then. Unfortunately the college program is drained of talent due to players leaving early. The high school players that go directly into the NBA are hurting the college program because they never contribute to the college program at all. Now the NBA has to deal with a higher level of immaturity and disrespect by young players. College basketball players obtain a certain amount of respect and maturity in college. The players suffer by not grasping the concept of learning due to lack of education.…

AND ONE!!!! It was the last basketball game of my sophomore season. We played Stagg at Home, in the main gym. Everyone was there because it was the last game and it was at home. Coach Thompson substituted me for Darius with 5 minutes and 42 seconds left to play, we were already up 10 so he just emptied out his bench to give everyone some final playing time. When I got in I instantly caught fire. I don’t know what got into me I just couldn’t miss, even if I wanted to. I was making mid- range shots, 3’s and I was also getting to the basket. My first shot was a pull up jumper about 15 feet away from the basket, it was nothing but net. After I made that shot I felt as if I could do anything, so I kept scoring. When I made my first 3, the team basically…

When I first entered high school, I did not want to play any sports. Though, my friend, Brenda, talked me into trying out for the basketball team. I tried it, and as it turned out, I was pretty good. I played on the JV team as a freshman, and then quickly moved up to varsity. By the time I was a senior, I was the varsity team’s starting shooting guard, and I had already broken many school records. With all of this success, it was not a surprise when many division one and two colleges and universities contacted me about playing for their programs. I visited many schools, and finally decided to play at Michigan State. Due to NCAA rules, I was not allowed…

Basketball is not a sport for everyone it takes a lot of dedication, strength, focus ,and teamwork. I have been playing basketball since I was seven years old. The love that I have for the game is indescribable, if by chance I could never play again, my soul would be a hollow lifeless shadow. From the Separating White Line I glance up at the scoreboard; the clock reads 15 seconds left in the fourth quarter. My team is down by 4 points; we have to score a three-pointer and have no time-outs left. I yell out the play for a three-pointer and a two-pointer, now the perfectly spherical ball is put in my hands. Taking a short glance to the clock I saw time was running out. The only objects I see are two tall defensive players bearing down on me. Somehow I release the ball, just in time as a defender tries to block my shot. Miraculously the ball finds its way into the hoop, with 6 seconds left and the clock stopped, the other team calls a timeout. I jog to our bench, my coach waiting on the sideline to discuss the most effective play for the situation.…
