Biography: Christopher Columbus

Christopher Columbus Cristoforo Colombo, also known as Christopher Columbus was born in the city of Genoa, Italy in 1451. He was born into a family of Christians, which consisted of his father, Domenico Colombo, his mother Susanna Fontanarossa, and his younger brother Bartholomew Colombo. Christopher and his brother served in the Portuguese Merchant Marine, which is where he learned many of his skills necessary for sailing. He learned how to be a chart maker which assisted him in his later discoveries. As a new career, he started sailing for Portugal. His main goal in sailing was to look for a sea route to East Asia.
